Description So, it's taken me a while to really understand why Asami is my favorite LOK character, and it was doing this piece that I figured it out, she's the Avatar universe's representative of an archetype that doesn't really exist anymore, at least not in the same way.  She's the glamorous ,upper-crust, dare-devil adventurer.  The Red Baron in WW1 could be seen as an example, or later in the 20s Charles Lindberg, Howard Hughes (before he boarded the crazy train), and of course Amelia Earhart.  Actually, everyone talks of Varrick being the Avatar Howard Hughes, really though he's only half, Asami is the other half.  Actually, I sorely wish we could've gotten more of those two together in season 4, the little we did get shows a chemistry even more fun to watch than Varrick and Bolin.

The Legend of Korra helped me get into aviation history; thanks for putting up this picture!  Asami reminds me of a couple of aviatrices worth looking up: Jacqueline Cochran (test pilot and first woman to go supersonic) and Katherine Sui Fun Cheng (first Chinese-American aviatrix), both of whom belonged to Amelia Earhart's Ninety-Nines.  She also reminds me a bit of Nancy Harkness Love (WWII Air Force pilot) and Lee Ya-Ching (Chinese pilot and actress who was one of the first to play Mulan in a movie).

You're very welcome, thank you!  I'll admit that it wasn't LOK that got me interested in the Golden Age of Aviation but "Porco Rosso" from Hayao Miyazaki, so when LOK came along I was sold.  I've heard of Katherine Sui Fun Cheng before but I got to look up those other names, the sound really awesome!

Very nice drawing! I also like the matching art-deco ornaments and lettering.

Thank you!  The lettering process was interesting...pen, pencil, ruler, glass of wine and two episodes of X-Files...
