Description This little guy really grabbed me, it's been so long since I've really been sucked in by a piece like this one. But every once and a while all the pieces fall into place, and I'm really excited with how this little guy turned out. He's 3 1/2 inches tall (total) and is sculpted in "Magic Sculpt" a two part epoxy clay. He's been painted with Model Masters acrylic paints...
Argus snoozes while he dangles a tiny mushroom precariously in front of his trusty steed "Dragontoof" who forever chases the delectable treat in perpetual circles. hehe

Great job on this one. The detailing is incredible and the color is spot on. Well deserving of a DD with all the craftsmanship that went into it.

That is incredible. I can't believe you made that out of Magic Sculpt. That stuff is so hard to work with. Such great details. You have very good talent and pay close attention to detail. Great painting too.

This is very cool! Outstanding detail & great colour (on the figures and of the figures)!!!
I have a firend that does this sort of stuff ...except he does HeroClix and doesn't use clay
It reminds me of a lot of stuff he does ...which ...uh - I guess is a compliment

Anywho ...I think this is top notch stuff
Dig it!

Be well

Omg its like my childhood all over again >.< It reminds me so much of Brian Froud's work, and makes me so happy to see this on DA. Amazing, really. Im blown away, and I hope to be able to make pieces like this one day. Can I ask where you got the clay and paint? Around where I am, my college art store only has sculpty which is fragile and always breaks on me...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JillWilli In reply to Spooy [2004-09-02 04:15:34 +0000 UTC]

Yeah sculpey is pretty crumbly sometimes, but I love the "flesh" of it. This piece is Magic Sculp which you can get at [link] -the stuff is hard as a rock when it's set (2 part epoxy -sets in 3 hours). You can sand, file, dremel or carve it when it's cured also...
I tried painting a piece with regular acrylics (winsor) and they were fine, but for a really slick smooth finish I've been using model masters paints (made by testors)... great stuff.
Anyhow... YES! Get sculpting! It's just too much fun, hope you LOVE it! Happy sculpting!

Uwah thank you sooo much! Im so grateful, you have no idea Im amazed at the versatility of this medium! I can't wait to try it out, and this will help me %100 with my character dolls Im making for my portfolio. Now, is this clay white, or flesh colored? Im sorry to keep bugging you Because like you said, sculpty has a really lovely skin tone. And is there a matte paint they sell? I actually have testors, but never tried paitning with them. Again, thank you so much and Im sure to love it! Heehee yes, I know I will ^_^
