Description
A quick study of an early Veeblefitzer Thunder Mug bomber fighter.
This version is powered with an air cooled PW R-2800 radial engine, aft of the wing, producing 2,000 hp.
The front engine is an over designed Veeblefitzer-Allison V-1710 "Super Allison" liquid cooled motor producing 2,000 hp.
Designed for anti-ship operations, it also excelled as a ground-attack bomber, ferociously armed with 4 X 37 mm wing cannon, and able to carry three tons of bombs, torpedos, rockets, and fuel cells, externally, the ThunderMug A was a decisive factor in winning battles.
Please note the wide paddle propellor blades, and the large wing root radiator system.
Also, note how the wing landing gear rotates into the odd, squarish, housing.
This particular illustration represents Prof. Anton Veeblefitzer's grand-nephew, Lt. Col. Theodore Cleaver Veeblefitzer Von Clausewitz (nicknamed the "Veeb",) posed before his Thundermug, named "MUGSY", depicting two foaming beer mugs tapping together for good luck. please note his victory marks. The small beer steins are enemy aircraft defeated, and the yellow slashes are successful bombing missions.
