Description
Professor Anton Veeblefitzer, thatoutrageous fugitive from the laws-of-
aviation-physics, saw fit to have a fit,
and design the bizarre XVE-85701A
Asparagus fighter.
PAV designed this odd machine around
the classic Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial
engine, the produced over 2,000hp.
PAV provided two counter-rotating paddle-
blade propellers in the tail of craft, with a massive
combination oil-cooler and supercharger contained
in a pod underneath the engine.
Almost, as an afterthought, an inverted vertical
stabilizer-fin was mounted under the nose of the craft.
PAV installed an anti-propeller-prang tail gear under the
aft fuselage. Since the nose of the machine was very light,
a minimal-strength front landing-gear was installed.
The main wing-mounted landing gear was fixed, as in the
tradition of the German Stuka and Japanese Val dive bomber.
(PAV was too lazy to design retractable gear, on this project!)
While the "Asparagus", as it was code-named, for some odd reason,
was able to speed-along at a respectable 432mph, and maneuver with
the-best-of-them, at the time, the various governments, in this particular
alt' universe, didn't seem too interested in purchasing any for their air-forces.
Pictured is the sole prototype, piloted by PAV himself, as he couldn't find any
test pilots who wanted to take it for a spin (now, there's a pun!).
