Description
The classic Beech Aircraft Corp early 1930's stagger-wing passenger and sport plane, was adopted during the Second World War by American and British air forces, etc. .
The craft performed well, powered with a PW R-985 9 cylinder motor rated a 600 hp, providing a maximum speed of 212 mph.
It was used for passenger transport, and very light military duties.
Well, of course, when Professor Anton Veeblefitzer, alternate-universe-jumping aviation genius, put his peepers on this wonderful little machine, he immediately saw the potential of a full-fledged combat-worthy fighter.
First, Prof. Veeb' replaced the R-985 motor with a far more powerful Bristol Hercules 14 cylinder engine, rated at 1,600 hp.
And, he added, a turret, from a Bolton Paul Defiant, equipped with four .303 mg's.
Also, two 20 mm cannon, wing-mounted were added.
To handle the stress from the increased weight, Prof. Veeb' carefully identified the air-frame's weakest points and added thin steel braces to hold the craft together, during tight maneuvers.
The new machine could reach speeds of about 325 mph, and was as maneuverable as a Hawker Hurricane.
It excelled as a home defense aircraft, but was never sent to challenge the Luftwaffe over the Channel.
The crew consisted of a pilot, co-pilot and radio/turret gunner.
