Description First thing's first: a big 'thank you' to for tipping me off about how to do this sort of stuff with nothing but a digital camera, GIMP, and a trackball!

(And props to , , and by proxy for their wonderful path tutorials!).

A good number of people asked for it, and here it is: take two on my inspired rendition of Fox, Falco, and Wolf, in all it's blissfully clean lineart'd glory.

...This is as far as I'm taking this piece though. If anybody feels like coloring it, go right ahead, but I think I'll save my first digital coloring job for my final Starfox piece...

Okay, I have to ask: what the hell is a 'fukuhila?'

Seriously?

oooh! You got busy right after our talk! NICE JOB! & Congratulations!
The only thing that bugs me about this is Wolf's hair.. it looks pretty stiff. But, I can see that it wasnt present in the original drawing in the first place, so maybe it's that ^^'
Very nicely-detailed. I may try my hand at coloring, since I could use the practice

btw, you can do something like this when talking about someone on DA:

It makes it easier to identify ^_~ (some ppl just have the strangest names XD)
Anyway. You do so by typing :icon insertUserHere:
For ex, :icon jj2oxx: without the space. & you can link to anyplace by simply typing the full url. That way you can link the viewer to ur original piace. [link]

Keep exploring those GIMPS tuts, man! You'll get far!

I've noticed people doing that with other people's avatars, but I didn't know how to do it, and didn't feel like looking it up in a FAQ.

...I just figured that if I let myself languish in ignorance long enough, eventually someone'd take pity on me and share these arcane secrets of deviantArt.

...And lookie here!

(So yeah, the description's been properly updated)

ANYWAY

Yeeeah...Wolf's mohawk was improvised in GIMP, so that explains why it's so rigid. Or maybe he just really likes hair product...

Also it's probably worth noting this is the first time I tried doing this sort of work, and I started on Wolf, so naturally he'd look the most..."off" out of all three.

And if you DO decide to color it (which you TOTALLY should), make sure and hit me up with a link when you're done, a'ight?

u're welcome 8]

& dont worry, I'm sure u'll know when I post a colored version of this XD

If u dont mind, I'm gonna do a few touch-ups too. Redo Wolf's mowhawk & make Fox's nose slightly smaller ^^'

I do not mind. Go right ahead and make any and all touch-ups you deem necessary.

...his nose is rather BULBOUS, innit...

Thanks.

This is technically my first digital piece, and even after only a week after completing it, I can already go back and notice all sorts of things I could fix if I had kept the original .xcf file around.

...So in other words I'm glad other people aren't picking up on those things.

Thats one crazy Mohawk on Wolf..

jj2oxx In reply to crusaderVII [2008-09-26 02:21:20 +0000 UTC]

Isn't it though?

The base sketch didn't include it, so it looked fine...but when I got to the top, having his 'hawk just...cut off seemed wrong, so I added in the rest of it, and while it is cutting it close to "ridiculous"...I think it turned out to be just crazy enough to count as "good".

Well, if you think about it, there's really only one set of characters left for me to do.

Hint: they all have boobs.

Ah yes, the female characters of the Starfox series like Krystal or Katt. ^^ Can't wait to see them soon.

Well...maybe not "soon". I'm only just now finishing up the lineart, and I plan on actually coloring this piece...

...thing is, I've never actually colored a piece with GIMP, so it might take me a few days to get it down pat.

Very nice! Clean linework is definitley one thing i have problems with as well (I've been reading up on it, but I haven't gotten far yet).

But, this looks beautiful!

Thanks again (and again, and again...) man. Glad you're still enjoying these.

What kind of hardware and software are you using? I had no idea how to do lines like this until I was directed to this method: [link]

...And once you get started, it's pretty simple, if a bit time-consuming.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheGreatMatsutzu In reply to jj2oxx [2008-09-23 18:52:37 +0000 UTC]

It's no problem (Gah, I forgot to fave it the first time, though I meant to).

I usually do my work in an oekaki program, but I really want to learn the Photoshop I have. Thanks for the tutorial link, I may have to experiment with Gimp.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jj2oxx In reply to TheGreatMatsutzu [2008-09-23 19:18:00 +0000 UTC]

Well if you have Photoshop then forget GIMP. I only use it because it's free.

That tutorial can be applied to Photoshop, too: just think of the Path Tool as the "Pen Tool", which is what it's called in PS. I'd really encourage you to at least fiddle with it a little, because I got cleaner, more distinct lines doing it this way than I ever have with Oekaki.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheGreatMatsutzu In reply to jj2oxx [2008-09-23 22:46:03 +0000 UTC]

I've been using Gimp for the last hour, and I'm loving the line effects. I think the PhotoShop I have is either not a full version (It's called Photoshop Photo elements) or I just can't get the hang of it.

The Gimp is very easy to learn!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jj2oxx In reply to TheGreatMatsutzu [2008-09-23 23:02:37 +0000 UTC]

Okay, scratch THAT. Elements is a free/really cheap version that's only meant for tweaking actual photographs--removing pimples, fixing red-eye...stuff like that.

So yeah, unless you feel like shelling out 600$ for the actual Photoshop, GIMP is an awesome, awesome alternative. It can do basically everything PS can, with only a slight deficiency in ease-of-use to show for it.

YAY I'M POPULAR

I think I like Wolf's rockin' mohawk more, but the teeth are a close second.
