Description This is my entry for the Fantasy Earth Zero contest, and if you can't tell I went with the Sorcerer idea.

I love the idea of spell casting, but I hate that 98% of mages all have staves and ROBES. Agh. So I went with a bit of a different look.

She has two ritual daggers on her thighs, light equipment so she can move easily and be free to wave her arms around without catching her sleeves on fire!
I hope you like!

Edit: 6/9/2010

I came back and added some more work to this, not a lot, just some touch ups on the water, the background, a bit of the lighting. I changed the reflections a bit so there isn't that illusion of a vertical line anymore.

Really nice. I love the feeling of energy with the spellcasting and the watery scenery makes an eye-catching contrast with the firey dragon. Good luck with the contest.

Oh my GOODNESS! This is really good! I like it you wanted to be different. Good creative thinking. Idea of the 2 knives, very kewl cuz in battle you really can't afford to go heavy. Nice effect to use the orange color in the water and on the arch to lead the eyss to wonder around the piece and really enjoy it. Again, another wonderful, amazing, brilliant, exciting, awesome job!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I've been trying to finish this one for a week now and finally got the time to day. Been up almost 29 hours to finish it, but it was worth it!

Wow I love the pose and the coloring in this. The dragon also looks great as well. Also I completely agree with you that mages dont have to have staves or robes all the time. its rather typical and monotonous. Anyway i'll be rooting for you in the contest

I know right! Don't get me wrong, a nice robe and staff can look very elegant and high-fantasy, but mages need to do a lot of walking and such too. I imagine being in a robe all the time wouldn't be very comfortable.

fisheart In reply to JNetRocks [2010-05-26 10:18:12 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! If a mage was in a fancy robe all the time they would probably get tired or dehydrated extremely quickly and on a batle field they wouldn't be able to move as quickly, and a robe certainly wouldn't help when it came to movement, or probably spell casting for that matter. And also why in the world would a mage neccesarily need a huge staff!? What happened to using books to cast spells or better yet not needing anything at all? >.<

Staves can be really fun to design, I get that, but I think if I made a game I would probably try not to restrict mages to the same old robe and staff routine. Give them more options, like you said, equipping a tome of spells.

fisheart In reply to JNetRocks [2010-05-28 02:17:43 +0000 UTC]

I agree completely. When playing various video games things are always more fun when the characters are given a diverse number of options. I would attempt to make as many different options for outfits as possible, in all the classes. I would probably would even try merging various classes. Who says a warrior can't cast a spell or two XD

yess. I think that's why I enjoy Dragon Age so much, there are a ton of options. Inside the 'mage' genre, you can chose 4 specializations and like 5 trees of magic and make different combinations, which makes them a lot more fun to play. Rogues got a little jipped, they only get dual wielding weapons or archery/crossbow but still fun.
