Description
This is my entry for the Fantasy Earth Zero contest, and if you can't tell I went with the Sorcerer idea.I love the idea of spell casting, but I hate that 98% of mages all have staves and ROBES. Agh. So I went with a bit of a different look.
She has two ritual daggers on her thighs, light equipment so she can move easily and be free to wave her arms around without catching her sleeves on fire!

I came back and added some more work to this, not a lot, just some touch ups on the water, the background, a bit of the lighting. I changed the reflections a bit so there isn't that illusion of a vertical line anymore.

I like that the blue contributes to the fire's vibrant glow.
YES, I don't like the idea of big robes that get in the way of spell casting either. Staves are usually to amplify power or to provide support, so it's somewhat understandable.
All in all, great job. The fish in the corner was a nice touch.

She's actually not under ground, I didn't spend as much time on the background as I should have it seems, haha. I will have to go back and add some more details. She's in the ruins of a city built on water, or maybe flooded? Why is she summoning a fire minion? Weeell.
I originally just drew her from the knees up, summoning a dragon with no idea of the background. Then I started adding, and I liked a blue scheme so I did water. The dragon was originally green flames, not orange, it just sort of developed as it went along.

OK, um, WOW! I did see it in the earlier stages, when you were asking for advice about colours, but I'm STILL blown away at what you turn out. I do agree wholeheartedly that not every wizard type needs to look like Gandalf. And damn, I wish more wizards looked like her.

And yup, it really is one of your best! THE best, if I may!
I think it cointains a lot of elements you have previously drawn, but all in one, and better thatn ever before.
Like a dark picture with water, and the water came out much better than in your previous drawing of it.
Character design, i think thisn one really fits the overall theme of your gallery, And that of the contest. I really think the changes you came up with are practical.
Also the fire - wow-eee.
The one and only thing that bothers me are those very black shapes of the building in the background. But maybe it's just the fact that they're close to that really white colour that makes them contrast and consequently drews my attention to them.
In the end, have my wishes of luck, i really think you'd deserve a prize for the amount of work that went into this. Good luck!

Ah yeah the towers. I originally had them towards the center then I forgot the dragon would be covering them up, so I slid them over. And with the moon there, I was going for a silohetted look.

What did you use to create this? I'm new at this so any advice would help.

Well I can't give a short simple answer for that I'm afraid, haha. I used Photoshop CS4, though you could create it just as easily with Photoshop 7.0 I used multiple layers and the Paint Brush tool, and that's pretty much it! If you want to get into digital painting, I'd be happy to give you some more tips via note.

That would be awesome. I have no knowledge about digital painting. I draw with pencils and paint with acrylics (maybe I will take pictures and add them to my deviations) but I never have done digital painting.
