Many artists create fanart and sell them at conventions and online shops for a long time now. It's a weird gray zone that's hard to address, and I can't explain it very well, but if you're curious about it I would recommend searching for articles that address this

I've searched and searched and the results seem to be back and forth. You can if the character isn't completely like the original or you can't because of other reasons. Oy. My main purpose is to draw them in chibi style and I think that falls into the category of them being viewed differently. Idk, I'll keep looking

Yeah it gets really tricky and confusing Similar to what you've seen, usually if it's not the exact same as the original, and you drew the character in your own style, it tends to slide. But regulations vary from site to site.

Thanks a bunch and I'll still draw them for fun. Whenever I get a chance to sell at a convention I'll want to sell my own pieces, but I may add a few here for small sales or for anyone to just download for free
