I apologise for the poor quality - jpg compression made the stars look not as nice in the end, but anyways...Enjoy!

Hehe, indeed. Of course, doing a GOOD job of it can take an hour or two, depending on how big the sky is...

I'm somewhat confused with "add your own stars manually". I mean, I know how to do that, but how many do you generally make?

Hmm... Well, that depends on the image. If a large focus of the image is the sky, then I'll be more likely to add more to add a more personal touch. So... say... 10-50, spread randomly or not-so-randomly around the sky, of varying brightness and size.

Heheh, and it is quite easy. Even without doing any manual work, it looks nice. However, I think it's worth putting it in, because it makes it much more special that way.

I knew the noise filter could do an effect like that, but I never would have thought of going that far.
Nice tutorial. I may have to use it sometime.

Hehe, thank you! Yeah, it's amazing what the filters combined, plus a little manual work, can do.

looks great! i don't know why i never thought of using a noise filter before for that, sure beats making every star by hand. thanks for the tips!

Heheh, it does beat making every star by hand X3 I have "speed" ways of doing that, too (mass scribbling!! plus use of scatter brush) but it doesn't look quite as nice...

jocarra In reply to rewston [2006-01-18 15:50:58 +0000 UTC]
It's very simple Most variations of stars done like this look quite nice, and quite convincing
yet at the same time give room for personal touches and things that make it more than just a series of filters.

jocarra In reply to ClemiKinkajou [2006-01-26 09:07:06 +0000 UTC]
Very nice My only suggestion would be to brighten up a few of the stars - you can do this by using Adjust Levels and dragging the white triangle around a little.
