MUNDVSTERTIVSTRIVM
"Many would describe the people of Raziel as primitive in their ways and antiquated in their beliefs, but few would describe the Raziel-aiya as without richness of culture, for theirs is filled with the lore and tantalizing secrets of days long forgotten.
"The Raziel-aiya are divided into two people, the Niyotael and the Ahghaeri. While the eleven tribes of Ahghaeri are known to have given rise to both daughter-nations Aldyr and Barrow long ago, it is the twelfth tribe, the Niyotael, that best keeps the dark mystique that characterizes this ancient people. Most easily distinguished from their plains-dwelling brothers by their darker complexion, ebony hair, and the fact that they are most at home within the jungles and forests of the deepest wild, the Niyotael often serve to symbolize the passion of the Raziel-aiya for the pursuit of spiritual balance and oneness with the elements of both Sun and Moon, as symbolized in their religion by the Scale of Raziel.
"Razielians have always dwelled in what wilderness remains in the world, adopting either a nomadic lifestyle or building small, self-sufficient villages, most surviving tribes cling to the region known as Paruda, hailed as the Cradle of Humanity and place to which their lord Raziel descended to give to them the Three Gifts. However, little of this place remains in the worlds New and Ancient - following the Battle of Korah and Great Division, Paruda separated to create the Third World of Three. It is thought that the true paradise of the Raziel-aiya is preserved in this Third World, until then ignored, but now lost to all forever, save the Guardian..."

An excruciatingly detailed old-world style map of the Lost World Paruda, the third and last world making up the Tripartitus, the three-part universe featuring in my story of the same name, The Tripartitus.
All fonts were made from scratch in Illustrator, except the "Greater Juubai/Niyotael/etc." font.
All graphics were also made from scratch in Illustrator, including the triquetra in the top left, which alone took about three hours to make absolutely perfect.
Yes, all mountains and trees were hand-drawn individually.
~30 hours Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator CS3.

Hey There I really like your artwork 10/10! I would just like to mention quickly that I have a gaming team set up of 9. We need more 3d and 2d artists for both conceptual and final artworks. We are a serious team looking for all gaming roles including GUI artists and others. The game is based over 4000 years ago and contains Vikings, Barbarians, Shaolin Monks and the Atlantians. Post a reply or send a note to me or email me on vxtream@gmail.com.
Thanks to all members who read this and please consider it as we do have many professionals involved.
Regards to you and all the Deviantart community,

This is a great map and really inspires me to work on sketching my own for my own lost world esque series. Does this Lost World Of Paruda come from anything like a book, cartoon, comic or anything else i can pull reference from?

Thanks a lot!
No, it comes from my own story I've been working on since 1997 :b You're free to use it as reference for style and whatnot, though But my personal inspirations were the maps for Lord of the Rings and the Elder Scroll games.

yes i read that. Im sure your sick of telling that to people as i think you wrote it over a dozen times. lol! But yeah i wanna do a Lost World Suvival Guide that teaches people how do avoid prehistoric animals, everything from dinosaurs to plesiosaurs and even giant insects of the carboniferous era!

The map looks wonderful, just as if it was drawn by Tolkien himself.
And the backstory is great and very well put toghether.

Beautiful! Just...just only that that I can sum it up with really. With all the details, rivers and that realistic continental shape, you can tell the landscape is changing across it with the colour shanges in the ground. Just what I've been looking for in the shape as a "map reference" in terms of colouring as well. You think I could use your way to make the colours of the land in this picture of yours in my own map? I'll give ya a link to it if/when I upload it so you can give it your ok if you'd want that.

Thank you very much, I really do appreciate it
You certainly may model your map after mine, as I definitely had models of my own (namely Lord of the Rings maps and maps from Oblivion).
Good luck!

Thanks!
Thought I'd link ya the map so that you could see the results and well...tell me whether or not it is too close looking to yours and I should change it and such. [link]
Thanks again!

That map is amazing, and it certainly reminds me of the Lord of the Rings. You say you made the picture from Illustrator. I also enjoy making maps, and can you or someone tell me more about Illustrator?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
jocarra In reply to Novablade5 [2010-03-18 00:26:46 +0000 UTC]
Nah, I didn't make the map itself in Illustrator - I made the graphics (like the compass) and fonts in Illustrator.
The thing to know about Adobe Illustrator is it's a vector program (like Corel Draw), rather than a pixel-based program like Adobe Photoshop/Corel Painter/Windows Paint/PaintShopPro/etc. That means instead of being based on mapping where the different coloured dots/pixels are, the program thinks in terms of vector curves and vector-based gradient maps. This means it's based on mathematical equations rather than pixel maps, so when you shrink or expand a vector image, there's no quality distortion whatsoever. You cannot paint in Illustrator - it's much more useful for things like textbook graphics, logos, super crisp lineart, etc.

So for the actual coloring and drawing of the map, which programs or features did you use? (I'm really new to all these professional arts programs)

jocarra In reply to Novablade5 [2010-03-21 01:08:29 +0000 UTC]
The actual colouring and drawing was in Adobe Photoshop. If you're interested, I do have tutorials, not for my map, but in general.

How extensive are the tools for drawing/coloring in Photoshop as far as sketching from scratch? -because although its main use is for editing pictures, I've heard that it's handy for drawing from scratch.

You have everything you need to do things from scratch in PS (which is what I do) :b Especially if you have a Wacom tablet - with pen sensitivity, it can emulate pressure and broad versus fine strokes, etc.

How much does it cost to purchase Adobe PS?

Novablade5 In reply to jocarra [2010-03-25 23:41:15 +0000 UTC]
Is it worth it you think? Or are there other programs useful for that sort of thing?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
jocarra In reply to Novablade5 [2010-03-26 10:19:24 +0000 UTC]
No program is as powerful or professional that I know of other than the Adobe CreativeSuites.
If you're just going to be painting with it, though? There are other cheaper programs that do the job. OpenCanvas is free and quite good, for instance.
