Description
Some redesigns I did for my Artistic License column.Spider-Man villains, The Shocker, The Fly, Tarantula, Hobgoblin, and Puma, and old Champions villain Swarm.
Didn't do much on Hobgoblin or Swarm, they don't need any help, but made a few mods to the others.

Yeah, though I didn't see the need for the gloves on Swarm.
I'm kinda pleased with the Shocker and Tarantula. I always hated how the artists made Shocker look like he was throwing electricity, when it's supposed to be some kinda shockwave thing. and I hated the toe-points on Tarantula. With two, it looks a bit like tarantula fangs, in fact, if I was doing him in a comic, I'd make them even more like fangs.

I always liked him better than that green guy.

Since I needed something for my Artistic License column, this month, I did these as a warm-up exercise. I've been doing a column redesigning characters since 1996 in the Collector Times Online.

Heh. First time drawing any of these guys. The Fly just creeps me out. Hate houseflies, so I'm sure I'd drag out the super can of Raid if I saw this guy. That's why I gave him the full-face mask, in case some hero does what I'd do.

Thanks!
I'm trying to build Hobgoblin's glider in Google Sketchup. I did a crude version, but I want to dress it up a bit, so I'm starting over from scratch.

It's been many, many years since I first and last drew Doc Ock. Near 30 years ago, as I recall. Whee.
I liked him in the movie. they did a great job with the arms. Would absolutely hate to try to draw those page after page in a comic.
Didn't like the Ultimate version, with the morphing arms. Like with the Ultimate Green Goblin, they just took it too far. I don't like heroes or villains being nearly unbeatable.

I've enjoyed Ultimates, in the first two series, anyway. But Ult. Spidey, yeah, I love Bagley's art, but the stories just seemed half thought-out. Ult FF...ugh. Ult X-Men? I couldn't even get started with it. And while I enjoyed Iron Man in the Ultimates, the Ultimate Iron Man series was just awful. Why couldn't he just be a guy in a power-suit? Why's he gotta be a freak or a mutant or whatever the hell it was?

And, generally, I like Orson Scott Card's writing. Dunno what he was thinking.
