Description
Nova and Firestorm always seemed like an ideal DC/Marvel cross-over. I don't know why Dr. Phosphorous came into my head, but he's one of the more visually-interesting of DC's nuke villains, and Radioactive Man, because, who doesn't like a big, scary Chinese man in an dress. Somewhere in my head, I have the distinct impression that Firestorm fought someone, once, you caused him to fission, and I thought that would be a cool visual, too. And, what better, for a 70s Super-villain team-up (as well as heroes), than a nuclear nightmare. When the bomb goes off, these two baddies will be the only guys left alive, to loot the city. Or something like that.Related content

Seems like such a natural crossover. Rich Ryder...Ronnie Raymond...they're alliteration buddies!

I had some prints made, 11 x 17, like the original art, and they came out great. Anyone interested, message me. They're $10 each, plus shipping.

This is awesome Joe! I agree with Kevin on the choice of coveralls for DP. Daz, I think you may be thinking of The Blazing Skull. Really like the colors here Joe. Eye popping! A true team up that never was!

You know, I just this moment realized what's missing from my bomb, other than gratuitous flashing lights, to make it a 70s style nuclear threat.... a big, LED clock, counting down! Should I add one? It seems so natural that it should be there...

Good choice on Dr. Phosphorous. I definitely like the coverall's idea over the shorts. Good call

Dr Phosphorous appeared first on Detective Comics, in a story with Walt Simonson art. This was just before the classic run with Marshall Rodgers penciling, that made me a Batman fan, again.
The visual of a translucent guy, with just his skeleton (and eyes, for no explained reason) visible, makes him interesting.

There's a Marvel character with a similar look - not Ghost Rider - I think he's called the Smiling Skull or some such. I'll have to have a look on the net when i can. Its a interesting visual - same as villains with brains in exo suits like Doctor Sun. Classic old villains are always best visual that modern counterparts!

Even Luthor's bald head, was iconic, back in the day. Now, he's just another bald guy with an attitude.

Super job Joe! The colors are really classic and yeah the blending of the respected heroes and villains (though not heard of Dr Phosperous before) is inspired. Rob will really like this one! Nearly done inking your first page for Jaguar - between sneezes. D
