Description Way back when...
There were dinosaurs still stalking the land in those days. Computers were mostly something you cursed when they screwed up your bank account or paycheck.

This was done in 1986, during a period when I was toying with airbrush and technical pens seemed like a gift from the gods. Back then, I had way too heavy a hand for inking with a brush.

Colored with markers on Ultiman and the background was colored with airbrush. I even drew the logo on the page.

This was actually a second cover done for #1, the first was a wraparound on illustration board but the scanning technology of the day required wrapping the art around a drum and the illo board just wouldn't flex that much. Don't even know what happened to that cover. Hell, or this one.

Anyway. here's a piece of art from way back when I was way too green to be doing a comic of any kind.

Thanks.
I bought this copy on ebay. I pick up a copy of each of the two issues every so often, just so I'll have some.
I scanned #1 today and created a cbr file for it. I think I'll post it somewhere people can download it, just for the sake of history.

Lots. There were tons of self-publishers following the success of books like Elfquest and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and some others. Totally delusional, as we were, about the chance of success. And with publishing costs, an expensive hobby. These days, with web comics and such, it's possible to publish full color at low cost. Of course, there's low pay, but if its something you love....what the hell.
I just posted the link to download the whole miserable mess in a journal entry.

Ignore the file name, Webcomics Nation's system created that name, I didn't know it would use Ad Astra as the source.

there should be a no character left behind project. when i was gonna work on the big bang comics revival i was trying to dig up stuff on some old megaton characters.
needless to say they will remain lost.

i'll be sure to download the your comic.

I was so pissed the first time I saw Big Bang had swiped my character name!
Of course, I swiped it from Jack Williamson's "Brother to Demons, Brother to Gods", is it was only fair.

If you look in my Original Characters gallery you'll see a cover I did for a character called Quasar. Quasar was a character my friend Jeff created and brought a sketch to school to show me. His costume was mostly based on the outfit Travis Morgan was wearing in The Warlord, at the time. I think it originally had gauntlet type gloves and these little jewel-things set all around the seams. Very disco, 1978, or thereabouts.
I changes the gloves to arm bands pretty quickly, never having seen Marvel Boy or his later, FF appearance, where he died as the Crusader, but Jeff had, so he liked the jeweled arm bands. Within a month or so, he showed up at school with that issue of Marvel Two-in-One (is that a porn title to rival Giant-Size Man-Thing, or what?) where Wendall Vaughn is wearing the bands and calling himself Quasar. And that was just the first time it happened.

the worse is when you come up with a kick ass name and someone tells you its already been used in some lame-ass comic.

and thanks now i'll never look at those marvel titles the same.
