Description Playing some more with "Old Japanese Town Edo Vol.5" in Daz Studio and Iray. I wanted to continue exploring rendering a HDR image by combining three renders (ISO 25, 100,400) using Photoshop's "Merge to HDR pro" feature.  This time using a night scene and just a ghost light.

Thank you, I love how it brings some details into the shadows.  The big drawback is that you have render multiple exposures

Beautiful, it reminds me of a scene from an old Anime series called Samurai Champlue ( I forget the proper spelling and I am not sure where the old DVDs are).

Thank you, I had to see what this environment looked like at night and to see if I could pull some details into the shadows by combining different exposures in Photoshop

Seriously cool, I need to study up on this technique, I'd kinda like to make my own HDRs. Thank you sir, and very well done!

JoePingleton In reply to thomvinson [2018-04-03 15:25:35 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, It's real easy to make environment maps by just using DAZ's spherical camera.  The main thing about creating HDR images is that you need to render multiple exposures and combine them.

thomvinson In reply to JoePingleton [2018-04-03 20:58:10 +0000 UTC]

So how do you add light to them?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoePingleton In reply to thomvinson [2018-04-03 21:32:06 +0000 UTC]

I just used a sphere from "Iray Ghost Light Kit 2" to light this scene.  I changed the exposures by modifying the "ISO" in "Tone Mapping" setting in DAZ Studio

JoePingleton In reply to AOGRAI [2018-04-02 00:25:26 +0000 UTC]

I simply used one Ghost light and then created a HDR image by combining three renders (ISO 25, 100,400) using Photoshop's "Merge to HDR pro" feature.

Ok I am new to this ghost light; but is this a photoshop feature? HDR image... wow I need to learn how to do that.

JoePingleton In reply to AOGRAI [2018-04-02 01:24:23 +0000 UTC]

I used the ghost light settings from "Iray Ghost Light Kit 2".  They are basically just lights that don't show up if they are in the scene, but their light does.   Photoshop's "Merge to HDR pro" feature allows you to take photos with different exposure settings and merge them together to create a 32 bit HDR image.  I just used the method described at helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/how-… But I just used Photoshop instead of Light Room to do it. I only used 3 exposures by changing the ISO settings under tone Mapping in DAZ Studio and rendering three versions (ISO 25, 100,400).  I think most HDR images use more exposures, but I am lazy
