Thank you, I wasn't happy with some of my volumetric light tests in DAZ Studio so I went back to basics, one light, something to shine it through and something to shine it on. I used "AtmoCam for Iray", but it takes forever to render to get the light rays. I really liked the idea of the shadows coming to life

Yeah it was a nice touch, hauntingly beautiful.
On a technical note, how did you minimise the noise in the render?

I render everything at double the final size and cut it in half when I finish it. This gest rid of most of the noise and allows me to use fewer Iray iterations

Thank you, The idea of shadows coming to life (without it being a horror movie) in the light was a lot of fun to explore

how did you get the atmosphere? I always understood that Daz fogs used planes to simulate this effect but that's like real dust and smoke. I suppose that's 'volumetric'. It must eat memory for breakfast?

I used AtmoCam for Iray . It doesn't take much memory, but it does add so much to the render time because it has to render out all the particles

oh, great, thanks so much for your help. I've already learnt loads from you. I've got Reality but I'd not used it. I only started using DS in May so I've got loads to learn. I bought AtmoCam in a sale (as I do everything) knowing I'd take time to get around to using it. I forget what I've bought sometimes. It's only now I'm beginning to get a handle on rendering, but I've had Photoshop for years and still learning in that so I can't imagine how long it will take me to catch up in Daz.

You can get the same effect using Reality. I tried it in this experiment.
This was my first attempt after watching the fog tutorial at preta3d.com/video-tutorial-cre…

I actually had to look really close to see it well. These old eyes of mine even with glasses are not the greatest! It was a very sensual kind of image. Graceful and intimate in the way dancers appear when they dance.
