You heard correctly, the lighting here is excellent. Hyper-realistic with the planets/planetoids and their textures basking in the light. The faded out look with the backdrop really helps it produce this effect, actually. I am unsure about the realism of the asteroids, however, especially the one of the left. Perhaps if their shadows showed up more (for the ones on the right)? Overall an interesting technique worth looking into further.

... I actually thought that was one of the aspects which made this unique. I wasn't really criticising it a great deal.

The moon is too oval (must be rotating at an amazing velocity to be that oval), but the textures are great!

Rest is awesome!!

JoeyJazz In reply to astrovista [2009-08-18 15:21:44 +0000 UTC]
Not true - it can be oval just because it doesn't have enough mass to keep circular shape.

But then the surface wouldn't be that smooth (ie the mountains would be very high) to my knowledge. The bottom of the moon does seem to be pretty rugged though, so I guess that could work.

You've done it for the dozenth time. I always knew that orange went well with brown/gray, and the blue contrasts nicely with it. I wish there was more of a story to it, though. It looks as though somebody tried testing a doomsday device on the planet and got more than they bargained for in the form of 3 or 4 extra moons.
And I do want to know where that texture on the far side of the main planet and moon came from. It looks like the sand-stone walls you'd find at Arches National park or some such.

Thx. I used one of my stocked textures/photos - I think they are from one old matte painting resource site... ..although I'm not sure from which..

Mayang's Textures? You've never heard of him?
Well, in that case this should bring an entirely new wave of work from you.

The image itself is incredible - adding animation to the floating bits would just add another element of awesome to it. It stands alone without it, but it would be fun
