Description This is the uniform I designed for the Fallout fanlore I created called the People's Army of the Novgorod Republic (Народная армия Новгородской Республики). I wanted to mix early Cold War with late Cold War Soviet uniform as I liked elements from all eras of Soviet uniform, so the main uniform is based on the M88 Afghanka uniform with WWII M43 Style "Pogony" shoulder boards also with a M35 Pilotka instead of a field cap with visor, mixing both eras together plus I prefer the lovely iconic Pilotka rather than the Afghanka cap. The camoflague uniforms are also issued with a VSR Camo pattern as standard camouflage of the republic, the camouflage is often used by the "Bogatyrs" (Heroes of Slavic legends and epic poems) who are basically the Spetsnaz of the Novgorod Republic, denoted by their crimson beret.

These designs are based of an idea I had for deciding what uniform I wanted them to have, originally the Republic was gonna be a smaller militia of just pieced together kit but not only would that require me having to edit and put together a lot of different armour variations but it was also kinda scruffy, I mean come on even the Gunners or Talon Company in Fallout had a sort of uniform and they were just ruthless mercenaries so an established Republic has gotta be more organised than a bunch of mercs. Plus I love uniformity overall, hence why I do so much uniform pixel art in the first place.

I plan to eventually put these armours actually into Fallout, unfortunately my graphics drivers messed up a few days ago, literally the day before I came across a treasure trove of modding meshes and textures I could literally create these uniforms right now but my graphics card doesn't like any new drivers, I think its slowly dying so not being able to mod or play games for the last few days has been pretty annoying but at least I know what I want to mod when or if I manage to get it working again soon.

These are the uniforms of the Novgorod Republic I pieced together editing and using a variety of old Soviet drawings of uniforms over the years: i.imgur.com/IRG7tpK.png

Heres the Anthem of the Novgorod Republic: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QseiY… (Might change it later on)

Ah thank you I've updated it properly now.

Also, patch "НОВГОРОДСКАЯ" makes no sense. More proper would be, for example, "НОВГОРОД".

I had that originally but you said "Right spelling would be "Новгородская Республика"."? So I had the correct spelling in the beginning then? joeylock.deviantart.com/art/72…

Well... No.
You see, in Russian language endings like "-ая", "-ий", "-ый" inevitably makes word an adjective, and adjective without noun looses sense in this situation. It's like in English you would write just "NOVGOROD'S" on the patch. Novgorod's what? Army? Firefighters? Fastfood restaurant? Babysitting club?

So if it was "The Novgorod Republic" like the historical republic, what would be the correct spelling? Because from what I've seen the Novogord Republic wikipedia article says its "Новгородская республика" but the word endings is the main area I always get confused, same with Spanish and their "Masculine and Feminine" words.

Oh, Spanish has this feature too?)

Correct would be "Новгородская Республика". But for the patch you would need either use full name ("НОВГОРОДСКАЯ РЕСПУБЛИКА", "НАРОДНАЯ АРМИЯ НОВГОРОДСКОЙ РЕСПУБЛИКИ" - too long for a patch, I guess), use republic's name as a noun ("НОВГОРОД"), or use some form of abbreviation ("НАНР", "НА НОВГОРОДА" - as analogue to modern Russian patch "ВС РОССИИ", where "ВС" means "AF", "Armed Forces").

It's actually a face I made when I was making some American Civil War infantry as I wanted to add a bit of variation: joeylock.deviantart.com/art/Th… - But I notice it does look similar to Putin in a sense!

I plan to actually create a proper accurate Afghanka Uniform separately now I've managed to make one!

Which one do you mean, the imgur link? That was something I quickly pieced together using Soviet uniform templates, the reason I didn't go too "unique" was firstly I didn't want to distance too far from "Russian Style" uniform but also in Fallout I'm limited on what sort of uniforms I can have unless I somehow learn to create models myself from scratch which would take quite some time. I'm not too sure if I'll keep the whole collar tabs on the Overcoats etc I just couldn't think of a unique insignia at the time, although a lot of "Soviet" elements date back to Imperial uniforms, so I'm trying to mix Imperial, Soviet and Modern Russian military ideas all blended together, taking out the elements of each that I like. The Imperial Russian officer overcoat isn't much different to the Soviet M43 Overcoat design: voin-rkka.ru/published/publicd… - Plus it's hard to bring "Imperial Russia" into the modern age as obviously many uniforms back in those days were "for show" rather than functionality.

whoa i just realized that Novgorod Republic is your fictional country! my bad, i think it is a breakaway nation in Russia or Ukraine!

sorry, i'm must be too excited to use your afghanka for my uniform!

but hey, then their got the best uniform that they could use

Haha it's alright I probably should have mentioned it in the description! Well that's where I got the inspiration from originally, after seeing lots of news about the Donetsk People's Republic I was interested about the idea of a "republic" just starting up but this time in a post-war wasteland rather than modern day Eastern Europe but I'm glad its believable!

Haha it's alright, I'll get started on the proper accurate Afghanka today.

Why thank you! And it's a camouflage pattern I got from a camo pack on a forum, I saturated it and darkened it quite a lot to my tastes to match some of the patterns in actual real life photographs: orig12.deviantart.net/28bb/f/2…

You're quite welcome!

Camo is SUCH a pain to work with sometimes.  I had to use two different kinds on two of my devil ghosties, and I had a heck of a time working with it to get it to match what it should look like!
