A Note To Myself

Jumbles and tumbles of words, mockingbirds
There's nothing new here, fly away
Find the edge of the day and lift it up
from the darkness
Build a city of dreams and live in it
Construct monuments to the Somethingness
The something that exists once you've peeled
all the layers away
Stop the yammering and hammering of worn-out ideas
Circling the same spot where nothing grows
Find the light and bathe in it until an Eden-like
garden explodes
Life, with a capitol 'L'

Gorgeous compostion, Cathy! I love how it makes the viewer's eyes travel through the whole picture. And the colors (and texture work) are just wonderful...!

Thanks, Diego! I like to try and make my digital work look as traditional as possible, and Blur's Goodbrushes (drawing pencil brush mainly) have been really helpful in this. You can download them @ the end of this page if you ever want to try them out sometime, and they're free [link]

It does look as a traditional painting indeed, Cathy, and I think that's a great mindset to have, when it comes to working digitally. Thanks so much for the link to Blur's Goodbrushes! Over the years I have made many attempts at trying my hand at working digital, but couldn't get the results I would like to have (I get a too "digital" look, not in a good sense! )-- and these set of brushes definitely seems like a good way to improve that, especially after looking at what you are able to create with those!

I have installed them, but for some reason, I can only get straight lines (!). I'm not sure if that's due to the fact that I installed them in Photoshop CS5 (instead of the recommended CS3/CS4 versions), or to the fact that I need to format my PC as it's been working weirdly lately. I think I will format it next week, and try again (if that doesn't do the trick, then I'll get around to finding another version of photoshop), but I totally want to try these! Thanks a lot for the tip!

Actually, try re - downloading the brushes from here. That may do the trick [link]

I downloaded a newer set of brushes from the link (for CS5), but keep on having the same issue. Actually, as soon as I started Photoshop after having installed the brushes, the very first doodle I made (to test the brushes) worked alright! (it drew what it was supposed to draw, though not on real time-- it took a moment for the lines to appear on screen, after drawing them on the tablet).

However, all the other attempts resulted in perfectly straight lines (as it would happen if one would push the "shift" button on the keyboard). I've been making some research, and found out that a lot of people have the same problem-- I'm clueless about this tech stuff, but from what I've read so far on internet forums, it's probably due to a combination of an operating system issue with using a generic tablet.

Anyways, I can work alright with the tablet using an older version of Photoshop (8.0, or CS, which I've been using since first starting with Photoshop, like 6 years ago... ), so I guess there's probably an operating system issue going on, where maybe it doesn't support newer versions of Photoshop, or has problems running them...?

I think I'll try finding an older version of this set of brushes (in case there's one), which can be used in PS 8.0. If not, installing a newer version of Windows when I get to format my PC might do the trick.

Thanks a lot for the info and suggestions, Cathy!

:/ Let me know, Diego, 'cause if you get it working right there's some settings I can show you that really help with this brush set.

Huh . . . I hope it works out, Diego. Maybe try downloading new tablet drivers too? Anyways, let me know. I keep finding out new features for these brushes that are really encouraging to use Hey, I'm using CS5 as well. Perhaps if you're using a tablet, it's the drivers or something. All this tech drives me nuts, but there's usually a work - around for most problems.
