Recently Hot Topic youtube channel released a video interview with Applejack where she revealed that she got her hat "Bobbing for Apples at the Ponyville Fair," (See the full interview here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWcxeB… ) after seeing that video I decided to make a comic to expand on that a bit.Production on this comic was hard due to the fact that my art program kept freezing up while I was drawing it, but I'm pretty satisfied after finishing it. I personally think this is one of my best comics, it's one of my few comics that actually makes me kind of emotional.

Your exaggerated cartoony style serves the impact of the story really well here, said impact coming in right under the breastbone at an upward angle; it feels like it feels more when presented in such a classic wackiness format.

It was a tongue-in-cheek freak out. They knew they were making it a bigger deal than it is. That was part of the fun of it. No one was genuinely upset with Hasbro.

Right at the end there, ya got me.
I was assuming, with the whimsical art style and the light humour of Applejack's victory that this would've been a cute, silly little thing, but as soon as she said "Pa", my eyes went wide and my mind went "you weren't prepared for this". I didn't steel myself for such emotion and it snuck up on me so fast there, it was able to worm its way through my emotional bracer and give my feelings a hard yank.
Ergh. Ya got me. You dastardly fiend.

I never really take promos for canon. For example, I'm pretty sure Pinkie never actually bedazzled Dan's car.

This is so great. I love that the dad is silhouetted, leaving it up to the reader's imagination what he looks like. And the story is just so sweet! Not to mention the über-stylistic art style, which adds a lot of the originality that I love. Fantastic work!

Most likely because the only nod given in the show towards the existence of Applejack's parents were the twin shooting stars in Apple Family Reunion. Verbally acknowledging death in a kids show, evidently, is a no-no.

Yeah, I know. But part of what Joey was doing was expanding upon the Hot Minute segment.
For him, it was less about making Applejack say whatever Joey wants her to say, and more fleshing out why she said what she did.
This feels that much more real.

Was it a lie? By omission, perhaps, but then again...
She said she won it as a prize, which was the honest truth.
The only detail she didn't include was WHO gave her the hat for a prize. Not including that detail does not automatically make everything else she said a lie. That was simply a minimalistic response.

This is a feel-good comic strip, and yet you seem dead set on twisting the entire message to be about Applejack lying. Not only is that completely against what fans of this show stand for, it's also insulting to JoeyWaggoner.

In all honesty, the writers who put together Applejack's Hot Minute probably wanted to do something contrary to what the brony fandom assumed would be the answer. They like to do that.
That, and you don't always spill every little detail about yourself, even to people you know.
While Applejack is an honest character, she also likes to keep some things close to her chest.
Now, can we please stop this argument and just enjoy this comic for what it is, please?

That's really well done. And Applejack's response fits her personality perfectly, given this scenario. I'm not sure the official pony team could improve on this story.
