Description
This is my contrubition to the second release of the artpack by =exceedsThe actual title is "I am the way, and the truth, and the life". But because of the limited space in the titles entry box I wasn't able to type all of the words
The inspiration for this artwork comes from the bible. The words are from the gospel of John (nice name eh
So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd.
Some extra info:
The overall look .....
My work is never very bright or brightcoloured, but still I have to say that this artwork is darker then normal. It's done on purpose to make the light/brighter spots stand out better. I kept the colours very basic because it would fit better.
The Christ .....
I didn't went for a realistic look of the Christ figure. But I tried to picture him as being part of the door that the discipel John wrote about. More like a slightly faded painting. I placed him at the top of the door and tried to symbolize this as him looking at the sheep from above.
About the woman at the door .....
She symbolizes the sheep as written in the gospel. A pale and almost lifeless face but still with a little bit of hope. The stockpicture was fun to work with. The model was standing for a wall with all kind of small letters on it. In the masking proces I left some of the letters (by her head) intact. They symbolize the story of her life. She pinned them on the door to show Christ her 'old life'. Her life before repenting .....
The two little faces .....
These faces symbolize the thieves and robbers. They followed her in an attempt to keep her away from the door of salvation. While partly hiding in darkness, they try to remind the girl of voices, people, events and shadows from the past.
Frightned the girl looks at them, but not for long. On of the birds dropped the key at the doorstep. Now it's up to her. Will she open the door or not? I know the answer. And you? Do you ..... ?

And this, John, is why you're one of my favorite artists. You've plainly laid out the meaning behind the piece for everyone to read, and yet there's still so much that can be interpreted by the viewer looking at the work itself. I love all the thought that went into making this. Wonderful!

This is absolutely wonderful. All those pictures are blended together so perfectly. You've obviously put a lot of thought into everything that went into this image, and it works perfectly.

This is simply amazing, John. It's so touching, especially how Christ is the dim figure, and his message is the main focus.

What a wonderful Christmas present! I especially like how you portrayed Christ being the dim image, giving just a hint on his presence, but portraying him strong and essential nevertheless.
Composition is very clear and easy to understand, that's what I like here. Many people, including me, can relate to the lost girl with big scared eyes, tending to turn to the noise of false prophets' whispers instead of looking to the right direction where the truth lies.
Very powerful.
