Description
This is actually the second 3D model I created, around eight years ago or so. The aircraft is a Martin XB-51 attack bomber. They were designed in the late 1940s to replace piston-engine attack aircraft. Martin built only two of them as flight test articles and ultimately the B-57 Canberra was selected. I created the 3D model and metal textures in 3DS Max, with markings and insignias created in Photoshop.Related content

They designed the wings to have variable pitch, so that might have been impractical. A rotating drum was designed into the bomb bay. It could carry bans or rockets, and could be loaded as a pallet for faster turn around. Eight 20mm cannons in the nose also.

Yes. It was the second experimental plane Martin used a bicycle gear arrangement for. I think the other was the XB-48. Smaller outriggers were in the wings.

It definitely was. Accessibility for maintenance and engine swaps was pretty good though.
