Felicity continues listening to what is taking place beyond the cubicle door, trying her best to catch all of the conversation between the two students who entered the toilets after her.

A short while of the two girls whispering to each other passes, from which Felicity catches very little but is still intrigued at the identity of the voice whom she feels she knows but is unable to name, and then the two girls begin talking at a normal volume. They seem to be discussing acne, which makes Felicity more self-conscious than she already is about the rash of spots she has on her lower face.

The conversation takes a more interesting and personal turn, and Felicity starts to work out that the two girls are actually in her form and were present when that awful girl, Ella, tried and failed to be humorous by using sarcasm to insult Felicity and her acne.

But before any more clues can be gleaned from the girls' conversation about who exactly they are, their conversation is interrupted by an aggressive intruder, and what follows is something Felicity is shocked to hear. Threats, swearing, insults, all coming from the foulest mouth she has ever heard on a girl her own age. After a few exchanges, she comes to the conclusion that this is Ella, the girl who was nasty to her from her first moment as a member of 8W.

She stands frozen, fascinated in a morbid way to hear what might take place next---in that watching-a-car-crash-happen kind of transfixed horror---but also knowing she ought to be out there giving some help and support to the girls who are apparently being bullied by Ella.

But she is unsure what she should do! Felicity has never been in a fight with anyone before and the thought of getting into one on her first day at a new school---her mother's and her grandmother's school, at that---terrifies her. But she also knows she cannot stay hidden in the cubicle and let the other two girls become victims of this Ella, who is falling further and further down in Felicity's estimation.

She hears the girl who has not spoken much since Ella entered mention the other girl by name: 'Holly'. Wasn't Holly the girl who spoke up in defence of Felicity when the insult in the form room took place? That is who it is! This girl, this Holly, stood up for her, and here she is being threatened!

I should really help Holly and her friend but I could be in serious trouble if I'm involved in a fight on my first day. What should I do? she wonders as she continues to listen, hearing the threats escalate and feeling that very soon real violence could break out.
