Some time in 2005, I started planning a Spyro fanfiction that I never wrote. Elemental powers would be vital to the story.
First Row - Fire, Water, Life, Earth
Second row - Air, Rock, Sound, Space
Third row - Electricity, Metal, Qi, Crystal
Fourth row - Ice, PSI and finally Light and Darkness, the most important, though they are not assigned to any character in particular.

This concept originally began as symbols for the different types of Pokémon, but some changes were made over time, in order to make a different thing. However, that difference between Earth (Ground) and Rock remained. Earth is more focused on sand-like powers while Rock has more to do with hardness and stuff, but it's not entirely defined.
If I used this concept in a story, I would probably trim down the number of elements, combining Rock into Earth. Crystal wouldn't be there either, and Life and Qi would also be the same element. Space would be discarded since I can't wrap my head around it, or give it interesting uses that aren't copied from Homestuck.
So, there would be 10 elements (a pretty round number) as well as Light and Darkness. Who knows, maybe I'll make vector graphics for these now that I know how to use Illustrator.

The Life symbol almost looks like Itsuki's tree symbol.
