Description
I generally don't mind redesigns when there is a clear reason for it (example: ED209 in the new Robocop was developed as a military machine, rather than for domestic policing, so it was made to look more like a tank) but when stuff is overhauled just for the sake of it, throwing logic out the window along the way, it becomes irritating. Like when something that is clearly meant to be a turbine splits down the middle.I'm going to reinforce that last bit for people leaping to the design's defence: film is a VISUAL MEDIUM. If something LOOKS like a turbine, IT'S A F**KING TURBINE.

Well, Luke's first lightsaber looks like a Graflex Flash Handle. And yet, it's a lightsaber. The models always were put together from whatever they could find, I'm sure a naval cannon wouldn't work in space either, yet the early ships were full of those. This isn't a problem.

There are no Turbines in the damn engines, there is no signification of turbines, no implying of turbines and no actual TURBINES!
Its 2 separate engines that look like one for Ascetics when the wings close, the engines do not split. NOR ARE THERE TURBINES!

Firstly cool you're engines. I'm writing civilly here. Secondly I get the impression that they are turbines designed to get the ship up to enough speed to break through a planet's atmosphere, though I fail to see what purpose they serve splitting in two like that.

Streaked-Silver In reply to BrandonStorm [2015-04-18 17:03:48 +0000 UTC]

The fricken x wing has "air scoop" looking devices, that while stupid and pointless for space, Would not have a problem being two separate things for separate engines, that fit close together.
There are NO Turbines! ..in the X wing except for Jacko's quite shitily drawn version.
And no, the X-wing uses "repulse lift" to fly in the sky and get up to speed till the engines are warmed up for space flight.

Well in the PICTURE that JOLLY-JACK drew those are clearly meant to be turbines and I agreed with him that it was a stupid design in the PICTURE! Now I don't pretend to be any great Star Wars fan or expert (unlike someone I could name Mr. Silver) nor can I say for certain that I've watched the trailer in question. But regardless of that fact I share the OPINION that when you take something that is meant to be the main propulsion system of a vehicle and split it half without anything to support the separated halves then at the least the vehicle is going to have a rapid descent towards the ground that depending on pilot competency will at best horribly maim them in some manner.Β

Streaked-Silver In reply to BrandonStorm [2015-04-18 21:54:06 +0000 UTC]
but the actual design DOES NOT DO THAT! Thus the joke is bitching about a design flaw that DOES NOT EXIST.

If they were 'one turbine,' like Phil depicts in the first panel, it STILL wouldn't work being split like that, and yet it's still flying. So... I would ASSUME he did it for the lulz, but uhhh... He can't very well preach about knowing how turbines work when he doesn't know how turbines work. XD
Regardless, it's a small 4-panel comic. Worth a chuckle. Comedy for the sake of comedy and all that. No need to get too riled up replying to everyone.

As someone who doesn't really care about Star Wars all that much (I really liked the game Republic Commando though), why do Star Wars fans keep flipping out over every tiny change? I remember in the original films when Jabba changed from a man in a coat to a slug monster. What is that ok, but stuff like the millennium falcon having a satellite dish on the wrong side means that it's ruined forever?
π: 0 β©: 1
K-Riddle In reply to SabreXT [2015-04-17 22:18:06 +0000 UTC]
I thinknit was because the amn in the coat never made it to the theatrical release and was only introduced in episode 6 as the giant slug. However the fanboys then get upset when a cgi Jabba is inserted in the original scene where the man in the furcoat used to be.
As for these X-wings, and the deviation, it's an attempt at being funny. (though I have to admit that I chuckled at JJ's shirt )
