Guess the stupid plot device (force destiny, the reason why the stormtroopers couldn't shoot straight when it came to people standing still infront of them) would stop you killing him.

If you look at the title right in the comic, (upper left corner) it says (PC) right there.

'course, this is before we learned than no one "volunteers" to be a TIE pilot. They just get grown.

GrimCW In reply to Taigan [2008-09-02 20:55:29 +0000 UTC]
not true.
the empire banned cloning post clone wars, and all further stormtroopers and pilots/officers were those who signed up and whatnot.
hence any imperial seen in the original movies weren't clones. (that and probably the real reason being something called "budget" and "restraints of the era's gfx"

Taigan In reply to GrimCW [2008-09-02 20:59:52 +0000 UTC]
Really? Since we never see a stormtrooper's face in the original series, I assumed they were clones all the way through.

GrimCW In reply to Taigan [2008-09-02 21:07:12 +0000 UTC]
nope, supposedly (according to the die hards pre-SWG release, i'm not one of'em, but lucas may have changed this when he made the new movies)
the empire banned cloning, and bombarded kamino into oblivion just after the clone wars ended.

Taigan In reply to GrimCW [2008-09-02 21:21:23 +0000 UTC]
Hmm...
See, when I learned in Episode II that the stormtroopers were clones, Leia's line to Luke ("Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?") suddenly made more sense.

GrimCW In reply to Taigan [2008-09-02 21:35:25 +0000 UTC]
lol
nah its like the modern day military.
you have to be a certain height to join up, and luke was kinda runtish (though the armor fit perfectly.. hmm)
Kyle Katarn (Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Empire at war expansion) for example was an imperial spec ops officer at one time.
like i said though, Lucas could've changed it recently, just like he did with the Saber colors being specific to blue/green and red "ONLY!" (though Mace got a purple one cause Jackson REFUSED to join the cast if he didn't get a purple saber... )
i dunno, i don't keep up on that stuff all that well

no edits...
anywho
the reason i said Pre-SWG before it gets asked is this.
SWG uses "cloning facilities" to "revive" dead players, and many fans complained about the cloning bit being an illegal activity.
so there was a whole thread on the empire having banned the practice and how the devs said "players should think of the facilities more as an illegal trade like anything else in the SW universe. blah blah blah, EQ2 is in a seperate Universe from EQ1 too cause we're to lazy to research the original game blah blah blah we're dumb idiots that can't even optimize a simple shadow shader.... " sorry, side rant against SoE being wanks... i'll shutup now

Simply brilliant! It captures so much of the spirit of the game The jokes on the specific missions are particularily great, they bring a strong nostalgic feeling; the pun on Vader is especially hilarious (he wasn't technically even in your squadron even though he had the designation of a wingman, didn't he? ^^ ). Given how old the game is, I wonder how many readers went far enough into it to get the last panels
A great piece of humour on an ancient classics- a
is in order!

If I remember correctly, every mission would recommend a particular ship which was supposedly the best one for that mission.
Screw that. Tie Bomber on every one. It never failed me.

OMG! The memories! I loved this.
I played after I played X-Wing. And when I started flying the TIE, I fully remembered how the X-wing would (literally) 2-shot the TIE...
Btw, for a real chalenge, try playing without joystick, just mouse+keyboard...

i still think my favourite part about the X-Wing and tie fighter series was the different 'training' modes, and how they reflected the difference between rebel and imperial philosophy. sure, both training modes your pilot can get blowed up and it doesn't matter, and they're the only missions you get any credit/score/medals for where that's true... but both of them, level 5 is where you're certified to fly that craft in 'real' missions.
the same skills that would get me ever so barely through level 5 in X-wing's training took me easily through level 30 in Tie-fighter's. which group is more intent on having pilots come back from their missions? ^.^
