i can get not liking the first one much but 2,3,reach, and OSDT are complete BANGERS! aaand then halo 4 comes out redoing everything followed by a disappointing 5 that is barely a game because the action happens in cutscenes.

Ahhh, Halo. Such gloriously cheesy games that remain appealing to me even now. The Flood still unsettle me, if only because of how their infestation works in the description of the books. Still, I do chuckle every time I read this strip.

Well... it was showing promise when the fandom, writers and creators were investing in the plot. And then they flushed it all down the drain with the damned prometheans...
The main problem with the Halo franchise is that it is stuck in the same plot arcΒ it has been in since the first game. It's always a big standoff between good and evil.
Which worked when the Covenant was still hounding humanity's collective arses but doesn't when the elites break off to ally with the humans.
Someone in the studio must have realized this what with the tidbits of character development we saw with cortana in halo 4 because she was the only interesting thing in that game.
The focus should have shifted. It would still be an action game because the Covenant is still around but they could have made it smarter. War is war. It doesn't have to be the world/galaxy hanging in the balance every damn game.
Hell, the Spartans were made to fight insurrectionists to begin with, why not just have chief and/or the spartan IIIs and IVs hunting down the Covenant and/or keeping the brutes and prophets in check? Or make things really interesting and have them being lent assets to the elites when they tackle civil war and unrest on sanghelios with all that such a scenario might entail.
Bungie did the same damn thing with Destiny really; threw all their weight behind making a fluent target practice for kids with zero attention span while just taking the framework of a story.
It has to suck to be their writers. They must feel violated a lot.
I know, it's pathetic to get worked up over this and its not that I get worked up over a game(or games), not really. It's the shitting all over a potentially amazing story that gets to me.
There's little I love more than a good story and it grinds my gears something fierce when people with no respect for storytelling fuck things up from the big chair.

When it comes to Halo, only the Reach multiplayer is very good. (Mostly because that's the only one I've played)

I love Halo, but I have to admit, you're right on EVERYTHING here.
I think the only REAL reason why i like Halo is because I was brought up playing it, so it's harder for me to dismiss it than some-one who was brought up playing legendary games for the PC, Nintendo 64, PS1, etc~

Overrated but fun and with characters you actually DO get attatched to, despite their lack of importance to the game's plot. The Halo universe is mildly interesting, and I got hooked until I realized the amazingness that was actually finishing Assassin's Creed and Bastion and all that other stuff.

That said, I did enjoy the Halo series, partly because I have a weakness for Corps-Wank and partly because what you call "cliche" many others call, "Staples." I mean when the magitech future weapons are energy-based, do you call *that* a tawdry cliche? Of course not.
That said, it was still quite generic and when compared in both technical design (that's "how purty it played") and gameplay innovation to contemporary Tribes 2 Halo was inferior.
But fundamentally PC gaming has slowly but surely been hedged out of the big-budget games business because it's just so much EASIER to stick with samey shooters on unchanging hardware than deal with the filthy unwashed PC gamers who are all guilty of piracy until proven innocent.
And it's not like I really play shooters much anymore anyway.

COD is overrated...this is not.This is probably one of the most expansive universes out there and could easily rival some of the other big sci-fi franchises,though it could never exceed something like SW or Dr. Who in my oppinion.

Unreal (and the Unreal Tournament series as well) are First Person Shooter games real men grew up with. Guess whose piss started to boil when you found out that you can, in most parts in Halo, just grab the Plasma Pistol and givng every single enemy five across their eyes, even those "hard" Hunters.

Much like Call of Duty, I lost interest in these games during the first few levels. Now my friends think I don't appreciate the real game and story even though they made fun of me for liking REAL games with THRILLING game-play and PLOTS that are underrated because they usually DON'T HAVE GUNS.
