Description I'm one of those crazy people that feels ripped off if a game irritates more than it entertains.
GTA4 was pretty, but was shite to play.
SR2 was fun. Pure and simple.

(Wrote the script for this one ages ago. Didn't have time to draw it till now.)

in my honest opinion,Β

gta 4 was good because of story telling and having a decent but boring gameplay that gta v couldn't fix,

saint row 2 on the other end, had a story telling that broke some of the story rules for fun rather than necessity which made it both wacky but also way darker than the previous or even sequels to it,

of course it doesn,t have the pretty graphics but they make up for it simply because YOU COULD FELL THE EMOTIONS FROM THE CHARACTERS FACE MORE EASELY!!!,
gameplay wise...my god this is the kind of game that should be the norm rather than those AAA blockbuster who are just...crashing down haaaard,

its like borderlands 2, its good in nearly everything aside graphics,

also since this must have been a while, voliton, the creators of the saint row franchise found the source code of saint row 2 for the pc, thus allowing them to finally fix the game for the fan's (Potentially even remake it with more content than before)

this is waaaaaaay too late, since I'm just reading through your archives. But one of my teachers was fairly highly placed in THQ when they were working on Saints Row The Third, and they said the design philosophy they followed (and really, I'm surprised more game companies DO NOT do this), was to literally strip out anything that wasn't fun. It didn't matter if it was more realistic to leave it in, or if it was prettier, or if it was some super cool mechanic the developers always wanted to fit into a game and thought this was the perfect place to finally put it.

If it made the game a chore to play, if it broke the player's immersion by making them go 'why the fuck am I doing this', then it was stripped from the game and replaced with something that was if it needed to be replaced at all.

I wonder if that ethos started with SR2 given what you've put in this comic. (Also seriously wondering why, even in making my own stuff, I find it hard sometimes to follow this design philosophy x-x)

Still doesn't excuse how in SR2 in that whenever you starts a new mission, you have to go ALL THE WAY across the city to trigger it. And if you die, you have to do the driving all over again.

Sound like a chore if you asked me.

Pardon me but I don't remember at all that Gta 4 story is about a righteous quest.Β

Niko is never depicted as a good guy. The guy have done some very despicable acts in his life and he himself realizes this. He did wanted to get revenge on Darko Brevic for selling out his comrades but does that makes him a righteous person?Β

That is already better than The Boss in Saints Row who is a psychopath just because. Even The Joker or Trevor Phillips have more characterization than that.

You clearly missed the main theme of Gta 4 if this is your interpretation.

P.S - Answer this. If you prefers Saints Row so much for its fun factor, then why does a majority of the fanbase dislike the third and fourth installment? Cause I'm pretty sure using superpowers in SR4 is much more fun than SR2.

I agree with him. I recently bought Saints Row 2 after I had tired myself out on Saints row the third and damn was I surprised of the difference of the two games. Saints Row the third was poorly detailed compared to SR2, like example, the power plant in SR2 had its own security while the one in SR: the third just stands there and looked abandoned. The airport in SR2 was operational with airplanes taking of and landing while the one in SR:the third also looked abandoned. the city of Steelport was not even close to the size of the free world of Stilwater in SR2. The weapons and upgrades in SR2 was harder to get which made it more funnier and more challenging. And the customization in SR2 was FAR better and more advanced then the one in SR:the third. Oh yeah, and one more thing, IN SAINTS ROW 2 YOU COULD ACTUALLY DIE!

That I can't argue with.
It was fun that they inserted such fun vehicles and weapons in the new game but is was also a shame that they didn't but as much effort in the game like the prequels.

vigge859 In reply to SpineBl4st3r [2013-02-14 16:29:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, in SR2 you had to complete activities to unlock abilities like infinite ammo or new weapons and abilities. in SR:the third you just simply bought them when you reached the right level, which was SOOOOO fun compared to the prequels.
