I'm one of those crazy people that feels ripped off if a game irritates more than it entertains.GTA4 was pretty, but was shite to play.
SR2 was fun. Pure and simple.
(Wrote the script for this one ages ago. Didn't have time to draw it till now.)

Oh, other than that... I agree totally with you, this game doesnt need a complex story or going out with NPC's like in GTA4, what you need really is to just throw in some violence and some childish acts which all make you feel like a kid again :]

GTA 4 was simply a letdown. It looked nice but that is all. Story was nice but gameplay didn'T stood up to it. Can't say that i finished it beacuse it started to bore me after first three hours.
Plus the game is about cars! And the cars were pretty hard to control.

I'm a GTA fan and, like you, was disappointed that GTA4 was so much less fun than San Andreas. I'll have to rent Saints Row and dare to compare.

In short, GTA 4 was more than a game, and at that it succeeded wonderfully. But it meant it wasn't entirely fun. I haven't played SR 2. I hated the first one so much I haven't dared.

use the nitro (click right analog) when crashing into other cars. it does MASSIVE damage to them.

Ohhhh, thought you had to have a higher speed stat from the upgrade to do that considering it doesn't tell you how to boost!

I have a love/hate relationship with SR2. Sure, I can make my ugly avatar slightly less ugly with a bunch of custom clothes, and it's fun to fuck around doing nothing, but the actual game drives, shoots and plays generally like total crap. Not to mention it's ugly as home made sin and the story is even stupider nihilistic garbage than GTA: San Andreas.

this is hilarious.
Quite frankly, I like both of them for different reasons. GTA IV was the realistic side of the game, while SR2 let you do everything else. If you combined the graphics and physics of GTA IV with the gameplay abilities in SR2, you'd have the best sandbox game ever.
I want to see you do one for Tom Clancy's HAWX, just because that was the biggest ripoff game ever.

Anyhow, my two cents:
1. Meh, can't say GTA4 was a real disappointment myself.
2. True indeed...But frankly, I was just happy that they put in the option for "cockney British @$$hole straight out of a Guy Ritchie movie".
3. Granted, my private army was a crew of '80s b-boys & breakdancers, but an army capable of world domination indeed!
4. ...And also ponder why your character doesn't care about the 87 or so other "homies" whom you recruited & whom died alongside you. Well, at least it led to that kickass revenge via Maero's girlfriend (heh heh).
5. Never encountered them. Maybe it's because you wrote this before I played it, & got a patch...A patch that gave every f***ing police chopper homing missles. Thanks, Volition.
6. Never did that. In retrospect, though, wish I had.
7. Ah yes, one of my favorite side missions...Right next to impersonating police officers for fun & profit!
8. Despite what I said for #1, can't say you're wrong there. XD
Two steps missing, though (off the top of my head)...
1. After having played through the first game's assortment of cliched black, Asian, & Latino gangs, each with their own yellow, red, or blue color scheme, discover that the developers took a step forward this time around...& included different cliched black, Asian, & Latino gangs, each with their own yellow, red, or green color scheme. (Yay progress!)
2. Looking back upon successful completion of the game, realize that a coked-up Neil Patrick Harris put up a tougher fight than any of the actual gang leaders.
...But all in all, yet another stellar HTP from you! Bravo! ^_^

I've been interested in buying more of this but the time I rented it I noticed the framerate would drop every 10 seconds. I might buy it now that it's a Greatest Hits title though.

GTA let you take your freinds to a show. Saints Row let you run naked through the streets being shot by cops and gang members.

Really, I love GTA4. SR2 didn't advance in ANY way, when it comes to graphics. The story is kinda predictable, with the gang-stuff. The cars didn't change a whole lot, only half of the city changed. The gameplay's simple and generic. And it's a far cry from realistic.
But goddamn it, I can't stop playing, it's ridiculous.. But so fun to play.. It's, like.. GTA's retard baby that everybody laughs at, to be honest. It's awesome x3

I still found some of the SR2 characters to be well written. In fact they act just like GTA characters from older games.
I really enjoy Saints Row 2. It really IS everything GTA has lost in its bizarre quest to be taken seriously.

If the developers are too lazy/disorganized to get a FINISHED product onto the shelves; I'm certainly not giving them any more money to purchase the missing elements of a game.
I'll wait for the expansion packs to appear in hardcopy form and then buy them second-hand.

See, this is something that Valve do right. Anybody who buys their stuff for the PC gets the DLC *free* over Steam.
Xbox Live is a different story, but that's mainly because Microstomp is extremely stingy about free DLC. Still, if Valve *have* to sell their DLC on Xbox Live, at least they insist on selling for around 550 GP instead of 800-plus. (A lot of people theorize that that's one of the main reasons Valve have decided to go ahead with Left 4 Dead II -- Microsoft would've gotten even more pissy if they tried to sell all of it as DLC. All Hail the Profit Margin.)
