Yay! So helpful!
but one question: how do you rotate the brushes, if possible? I haven't managed to figure that part out yet. I just started using photoshop with manipulations so I dont know ^.^

JollyPen In reply to Yuki2TheMAXX [2010-05-20 10:34:13 +0000 UTC]
Glad you thought so!
Um, if you're using photoshop, I honestly don't remembr - I only used it on a free trial run.
If you're using GIMP, then you have to create a new brush of your own before you can rotate it. There are lots of tutorials on how to create your own brushes that can explain it better than I can, I'm afraid.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

I followed your tutorial, but i can't seem to get the colors of the swirls to stand out, is there something in particular that you I should be doing to bring out the colors?
Sorry, I'm new to all this. Your work really inspires me to keep trying

JollyPen In reply to Mags-O [2009-07-18 17:00:44 +0000 UTC]
Hi,
All I can think of is that you use stronger colours when you're colouring around the eye. And also make sure that when you're using the dodge tool, make sure the setting is set to 'Highlights' rather than 'Midtones' or 'Shadows'.
If this still doesn't work, write back and I'll try and find another way!

This tutorial was fabulous! I have Adobe Photo Elements 3.0 so most of your steps worked.
The only problems I had were smoothing the face out [my filters didn't have the one yours did] and making the eyes pop like yours. That was deffinitely my fault of doing this at 1 am and not being a good direction taker haha.
If I ever make one that I'm proud of, I'll deffinitely post it for you to see :]
Thank you so much!

Don't worry about the skin smoothing thing - it's not really necessary, just a little tip I picked up.
