Description
So I finished it in time for the expo, and even got the scabbard mostly done. I even got a brown belt and guitar strap for carrying it around with. All done in time for the Expo last Saturday, which was amazing.
I didn't have enough time to do all the detail on the scabbard, but I got most of it done. I plan on doing the rest of it over the next few weeks, so expect a totally finished sword and scabbard soon.
I also took lots of photos as I progressed through this make so I plan on making a tutorial soon for anyone who's interested. I'm planning on doing it on instructables.com and posting a deviation showing it off as instructables will make it easier to show step by step instructions which will be easily managable.
Comments and critiques are all welcome, enjoy.

I have to say, you are quite talented on making swords. Can you give more describe about the sword, like is this your idea of Benihime's Bankai form (In Japanese the title would be Mezameru Benihime), going by your Bleach like headline.

I hope you don't mind that I added this to my References. Reason being is because I'm making my own Link costume and I really don't think there are any real life Master Swords as accurate as yours

I haven't taken any commisions yet, but that's not to say I wouldn't. It all depends on the project.

Wonderful sword and wonderful tutorial! I have been following it roughly in making my own Master Sword.
Question... I see that you made the sheath out of wood, but then did you just paint it blue?
And what did you use to make the yellow designs?
I see you have a buckle that loops around the sheath to the back, how did you attach it to the belt?
Lastly, would it be possible to get a close up picture of the design you drew out for the sheath?
Ok I'll shut up now
Thanks!

JonsProjects In reply to BreannaAiedail [2011-10-18 11:43:40 +0000 UTC]
The sheath has some raised detailing, which was achieved by glueing on some shaped pieces of thin wood. Then the body was painted blue and the detailing painted gold.
At the top of the sheath I used a brown belt to attached it to the strap which goes over the shoulder. This is held in place by two ear pieces of wood on the sides. These where held in with screws and glue, they have to be really secure as they stop the beld from slipping down and effectively take the weight of the sheath and sword when combined.
I'll see if I can take better pics of the sheath.

JonsProjects In reply to JohnGault08 [2010-09-27 16:06:38 +0000 UTC]
Just a chrome spray paint. You have to give it a few days before putting on the gloss to make sure it settles.
Another method, which I might end up replacing this one with, is by using Rub and buff silver leaf. Just google Run and buff and you'll see what I mean.

If it were made of metal I think it would become illegal here in the UK.
But since it's wood it's fine

Dude, that sucks hard D:
(I have, like, five metal weapons....none sharpened ofc.)
Wow, I need to remember that if I ever wanna live in UK...

dude, this is some amazing craftsmanship! tho honestly, as impressed as i am with the sword, i'm even more intrigued by the design of your scabbard. i'm familiar with the details of the link scabbard, but it's the construction of the piece itself. the strapping and such. i could babble on more, but yeah. definitely impressed

Here ya go I found one
[link]
It shows the bottom piece with the sides attached, and felt glued. I ended up gluing the whole inside with felt not just the parts shown.
Hopefully that'll clear things up.
