Description
I hope everyone had a great ThanksgivingI was able to get the "Game of the Year" edition of Fallout 3 last month. I haven't really gotten to any of the new stuff yet (seems like the game allows you to level up to around level 14 before it starts throwing Super Mutant Overlords and Feral Ghoul Reavers at you -- those mo'foes are hard to kill!!! And I thought Death Claws were bad
This is my character I created for the game. She's a hispanic chica named Julissa (a name I came up with only two days ago so it's not the name she has in my current game), which is pretty cool conisdering her father sounds like Liam Neeson
I've notice a couple of different things once the new content was installed. There are a couple of spots where Enclave Soldiers respawn, which never happened with the normal version of the game, so I was able to get a hold of a laser rifle the first time I ventured out of Megaton (on the road leading to the Super-Duper Mart). Normally, I wouldn't find laser rifles until I reached the GNR building or the Talon Company started coming after me regularly. But the vendors seemed to start selling some of the good weapons and armor right away. I was able to purchase some Leather Armor from Moira as soon as I got to Megaton so I didn't even bother with the Vault Suit armor she had.
In the main quest I've only just met with Dr. Li at Rivet City but I'm already at level 22 (I like taking my time and I've done quite a few side quests). My first perks were all three ranks of "fast learner", "comprehension", and "educated" and since I start out my Intelligence at 7, I'm getting 20 skill points per level by the time I'm level 4.
And I love the "Grim Reaper" perk which restores all your AP points if you kill an enemy in VATS. I bought Charon's contract in Underworld. He's the first real companion, other than Dog Meat, I've had (I make him lug all the crap I can't carry,
Anyone familiar with the game should recognize the leather armor my character is wearing. True the combat armor, especially Reilly's Ranger armor is much better, but the leather armor just looks better on my girl (again fashion over safety,
....
Okay, I like how my girl's @$$ looks in them
I gave my character Wendy the Riveter's haircut to begin with, then once I was able to get the combat helmet I changed it to "Rough Nite" which looks better with most hats. But then I found this head wrap (off one of the slaver's I killed at the Lincoln Memorial, hehehe) even though it doesn't offer the protection the combat helmet does, again the desire to look good winning out
But shortly after I drew this pic I found a bandana, which offered a bonus point in "perception" so now I'm wearing that, though I had to change her hair cut to "Prim and Proper" because "Rough Nite" did not look good with it.
My prefered weapon is the hunting rifle, specifically Ol' Painless, though I haven't reached the Republic of Dave yet, in my current game. But the hunting rifle is a pretty good weapon to have in the beginning, when you don't have many caps, for stealthly long range attacks, and not as expensive to maintain if you're lucky enough to find a sniper rifle. It also allows you to save up on other ammo such as assault rifle, .44 shells, and laser rounds. By the time I get the Lincoln rifle I usually have about a hundred rounds for it
She also packs a Chinese Assault rifle for when the $^ really hits the fan, like when Super Mutants or Talon Company foos get too close. Now I loved the bat as a melee weapon, sturdy and great for fending against supersledges, but once I found Stabhappy (combat knife with higher damage) I had to trade up.
Right now I'm on my way to find that strange radio transmission that will lead to "The Pitt" expansion pack story, so I'm really looking forward to that
And I know I don't have any straps or holsters to explain how my girl is holding the Assualt Rifle, Stabhappy, or the 10mm pistol. I did that on purpose because, well, I didn't want a rifle sling obcuring the attire and I just didn't feel like drawing holsters for the knife or pistol
I did a quick a dirty background for this WIP, I'll do a proper background for it later, and I'm thinking of adding Dog Meat to the pic, and maybe even Charon.

Incredible! I like this, partly because attractive women with guns is always a fun mix, and of course because of the artwork. However, it's striking to me, most of all, that despite having a male character, I rolled through Fallout 3 looking exactly like this. Well, regarding the guns, knife, and gear. Seriously, even the headwrap and the shades.
Nice work; Definitely a favorite.

"Fashion over safety"
Ain't that the truth in this game. D: Power armor is awesome for not dying, but I love the Merc Charmer outfit so much. Probably the reason I drain all my supplies when playing on very hard.

Yeah, since I play in a third-person view I like for my character to look nice. And it does force you to come up with new strategies when dealing with stronger enemies. That's when nuka grenades and bottlecap mines come in handy Not to mention investing in stimpacks very early.

I too am waiting for New Vegas as well. Force Unleashed 2 . . . not so much, considering how disappointing the first Unleashed was, but maybe it will be better. Even though Bethesda isn't doing New Vegas I have faith in Obsidian to stay true to what they did in Fallout 3. They seem to be the 2nd best choice when you can't get the best, like Bioware, who did KOTOR I, so Obsidian did KOTOR II.

Wendy the RIVETER? Try again, home slice. Seriously though, good job on this one. I play as a girl too. Smokin hot with auburn hair and green eyes, with the same haircut. I run around in Tenpenny's suit and Red's Bandanna. Killed Tenpenny for the suit, but actually just took Red's bandanna without losing Karma in the conversation option where you give her a weapon. It was pretty good.

You're right. I got Wendy mixed up with Rosie. The haircut is Wendy the Welder
Yeah, when I rescued Red and Shorty from the Super Mutants I gave her a combat helmet and the extra leather armor I was carrying (to repair my Wanderer's amor) I decided it would be a fair trade for her bandana I also gave her a fully repaired Chinese assault rifle.

Yeah, I killed most of the enemies on my way to the police station but you never know when they might respawn, like the super mutants did at the church as we passed by. Luckily, none of them were Overlords and we were able to handle them fairly easily.

Honestly, if it had been someone besides Red, I might have been willing to part with it, but since she would get her ass dominated by a mutie if she went in with the ripper, I wasn't going to attempt it.

You have to ask about the suit and agree to help Moira with her survival guide in order for her to just give you the armor free. If not you can still buy it from her for full price, depending on you bartering skill. My current game I didn't even bother with it, I just went straight for the leather armor

I picked up the game because of htis picture, really. I was bored, looking for something fun to do while twiddling my thumbs between "School's out!" and "Find a job!". I was wandering through EB looking for something fun and spotted this. Also, a guy in an art class I attend is using the FO Boy art in one of his animations so the two thoughts clicked and I gave it a try.
I gotta say... the Wasteland wanderer outfits don't provide enouhg protection to warrent me wearing them pass the first few levels, at least not on X-Box. Nor the Merc gear.
I re-rolled my gunslinger girl with an Intelligence of 10 right away and have been getting 23 points a level so I have multiple 100's at level 20, combat armor, and STILL Death Claws and even "Duh Bears" are a pain.
My male "Damn, wish I had a lightsaber" Melee and unarmed Jedi wannabe has an Strength of 10 and Endur of 8 and a Int of 10 and he surprised the hell out of me when he punched out a super mutant. At level 6. O_O
My original gunslinger girl got her butt spanked by two super mutants with a Chi AR and M Launcher at level 12, and even at level 14 they were a pain unless VATS + Combat Shotgun got lucky.
Amazing game of doom o_o Fisto to duh face-o!

I'm glad you like the picture
Death Claws were the biggest pain for me, luckily they don't start popping up (unless you come upon a rare random encounter) until you're well above level 10. If you can cripple one of the Death Claws' legs before it reaches you, then it's easy to stay away from them and pot shot them at your leasure, but for that you need a strong and fairly long range weapon. The Lincoln rifle works best. The combat shotgun is more powerful (fully repaired) but by the time the Death Claw is close enough for it to be effective the Death Claw is already killing you
If you don't have the right gun, laying a trap works best. A bottlecap mine will more than likely cripple both a Death Claw's legs if not kill it, or a group of three frag mines. The trick is laying the mines before you're detected and then making sure they run into them once they're chasing you. Things get really interesting if they're two Death Claws (they sometimes travel in pairs).
You really have to concentrate on strategy with this game. Don't let enemies flank you, find good cover, and if you can catch the enemies out in the open while they're reloading and you have full-points in VATS, hehehehehe, good times. Don't be afraid to take a shot of Jet to give you that extra VATS shot, though take care not to get addicted that will hurt your attributes more.
Before I figured out Death Claws turn into little kittens when you cripple one of their legs, running into a Death Claw in the waste usually meant I needed to get ready to load my last save. So now I invest heavily in frag mines, stimpaks, and snap up all materials I can use to make bottlecap mines.
Super Mutants are another story, since they come in all shapes and sizes. The run of the mill SM armed with small arms are fairly easy to deal with as long as you have the right cover and patiently plan your attacks. The melee SM with supersledges take a little longer to deal with, I suggest a bat or stabhappy knife. Then you have the heavy guys with miniguns and missile launchers. Cover is key for dealing them. And if you have the GOY edition the SM Overloads are the worst, even than Death Claws. They have like three times the health of a SM Master and are armed with tri-beam or gattling lasers. I suggest running but that is almost just as dangerous since they can unload a buttload of rounds into you a very short time. Again I suggest dropping mines as you run, while they don't move as fast as Death Claws a crippled leg will hobble them and keep the confrontation a ranged duel. Even if you only have a hunter rifle your accuracy will make up for the ton of damage he's throwing at you, but cover is the most important thing since all those rounds are bound to hit you occassionally. If you can shoot his weapon out of his hands until it's broken. Even if he finds another weapon laying around it's bound to be much less powerful than his default weapons.
Even with the new level 30 cap in the GOY edition my melee skill is still pretty low so it take me awhile to kill someone with melee. But I can usually shoot them in the face acouple time in VATS before they reach me, so they're health is pretty low if they're not dead. But there are just some creatures you absolutely do not want to fight melee with. Death Claws (at the top of the list), Super Mutant Overloads aren't as bad in melee as long as you have A LOT of stimpaks, Yao Gai, Feral Ghoul Reavers, Giant Scorpions, Mirelurks, or especially Trackers (from the Point Lookout expansion).

I've actually re-rolled both my originals and split the girl into different paths. At this point, my fondest memory of horror of horrors was wandering into Old Olney before I knew what an Ol' Olney was... and then falling into the underground sewers.
Every step is another DC and every step meant my armor was taking a shredding. I scarcely made it out of Old Olney but when I came back prepped for it and with around 300 hours of game time in behind me I was taking DC's on with fairly even footing.
The OTHER fun time was when my melee/knife blade only girl (a.k.a. the cowgirl/harem girl you're working on) wandered up right into the campground of Deathclaw murder. I had just enough time to pop VATS to freeze combat and realize where I was by what had just lunged at me. I was not happy. I won, amazingly enough, using Stabhappy, about 20 stimpacks, Psycho, and Med-X but my armor was gone. Frigging evil monkeys. It's amazing how you can balance things out, thought my Int of 10 gunslinger girl (and unarmed goddess) can pick apart anything and anyone with ranged weapons, my str 10, end 10, int 6 knife girl is ACTUALLY surviving the wastelands and combined with all the stat boosting I did(not skills) as well as the shishkebob, her Lcuk with Vats criticals lets her behead Deathclaws every so often. Crazy game balance, very nice to see that the Dev's DID put thought into melee toons in a game that is OBVIOUSLY based on Ranged. And I'm forcing myself to wear the Merc gear, it took awhile, but I'll wear it for travel and random wimpy encounters.

Your characters sound cool. Do you have screen shots of them?
Olney sewers was where I had to learn how to deal with Deathclaws. I died dozens of times (at least it felt like dozens of times ). President Dave had also fallen down that same hatch (I rigged the election so his first wife Rose won
and he got all huffy and left planning on liberating Olney) but he didn't follow me into the sewers, the whimp. It took me a long time to make it out of the sewers.
I found Dave dead on the street missing a couple of limbs
I've now done a few missions at Point Lookout (haven't been back there in awhile) and the axe is now my favorite melee weapon, I also like the Trench Knife I found at the Pitt
Merc Troublemaker armor is my other regular outfit for my girl. Though it offers practically NO protection, it does looks very cool.

I don't really know how to take screenies but I wear the Merc Charmer, my "Little Fuzzy hat" Chinese hat, and Lucky Shades.
With my newest Widow incarnation, capping at 20 since I have no DL ability on my X-Box (Damn thing can't see my wireless network ) I generally carry the Blackhawk for heavy damage and sniping, Ol' Painless for plentiful ammo and generic use gun, and Sydney's Special when I feel like blowing 10mm ammo. I dropped my early game Karma so I could pick up Clover and I have her armed with either a Combat Shotgun, Chinese AR, or an Energy Weapon. She burns through ammo like crazy so I have to cycle her. That's also why I don't use an assault rifle and because AR's have a problem with C.H.S. syndrom (Can't hit sh*t).
For Armor I'll generally go Merc Charmer because after getting the trade caravans to 87% repair you're averaging 11 DR on all your merc gear. Add to that the Toughness and then Cyborg Perks for a fully repaired DR of 31, or, at weakest, 21. If I really feel a need to take real armor with me, I'll grab w/e is least likely to get torn up. Sometimes I'll snag the Ranger armor but due to it's weight and my low strength I don't like to waste the weight, I'll go Leather if I only anticipate 1 "heavy" fight and if I need a more durable set of clothes I'll grab Talon since I ALWAYS have so much of it lying around *snicker*.
For the melee weapon girl, It's Wendy the welder, Stab Happy, Shish-kabob and Blackhawk, even though she has only a 20 for small guns the BH's scope and high dmg allows for evil, evil, critical headshots. Ironically enough, it was Weeping "Blades only" Temptress that got me my "The Bigger they are..." accolade. And lemme tell ya, it's a pain in the ASS meleeing Behemoths.

The background is just something I came up with rather quickly with out putting much thought into. Just a simple sihlouette for the horizon with a couple of burnt trees. For the sky I took the "airbrush" and swished it (can you swish a mouse ) back and worth using a couple of shades of orange and black, adding in some clouds and the sun. But when I redo the background I'm going to put a nuclear mushroom cloud instead of the sun. That would suit pic better
