Description 11x14" paper! Professional graphite pencil kit! Next level drawing apparatus is complete!
The library in Canterlot we saw in the first episode, where our favorite egghead dwelt all day reading every last book in the library. Can you imagine such a feat?
I gave it a more steampunk/victorian feel to it, as if this was how it looked way back when.
I'm not gonna lie, I don't really like this one. Didn't turn out right. It's probably my lack of experience with actual art pencils.. I'm not sure if I should keep using them or not. Or maybe it's because this took me what seemed to be forever to finish it and that set my standards ridiculously high. Maybe both? well, whatever. Hope you like it more than I do.
Completion time~ 28 hours over a period of 6 days.
Oh, and heads up- the download is ridiculously massive. Proceed at your own risk!

Don't let him find out he's a robot; the existential crisis will drive him to destroy the whole town!

Also, wow, so many lines!

Oh dear Celestia, the books, SO MANY BOOKS! You must have the patience of a lump of granite!

The detail, as always, is absolutely stunning. The perspective is a little lacking in places, especially in the back left corner area in what seems to be a study room. Other than that, this is an amazing piece!

Yeah, the perspective was one of the things that I was disappointed with. Anyways, I'm glad you like it.

Stupid question from a layperson - how do you do a detailed pencil drawing like this, without ruining/smudging it with your drawing hand?

👍: 0 ⏩: 4

josh-5410 In reply to phonycycle [2012-06-25 06:15:38 +0000 UTC]

Yup, I use a scrap paper ontop of the drawing. Still, you still have to be careful, as the paper itself occasionally smudges the drawing.

I'm not a big pencil artist myself, but I know one of the most common tricks of the trade is to cover work you've already completed with a second sheet of paper and rest your hand on that.

I've known people to wear a glove with the fingertips cut off so they can hold the pencil. I think you can also get paper (or fabric) that you can put under your hand while you draw. Keep cool also helps.

You need to use whatever tools you're comfortable with. That's what I do, even though most of mine are horrifically outdated. I just think the biggest improvement is no holes at the top XD

josh-5410 In reply to Rettro [2012-06-25 06:24:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I'm not going to use the pencils as extensively as I did with this. It just doesn't feel right. And good rid-ins to those holes! Also no more confusing people into thinking Equestria has more than 3 suns.

Also, totally random thought, my father repairs clocks in his free time, and we've had a ton of old and new clocks in the house. Every single one though, German, American, Russian, Japanese, wall clock, cuckoo clock, grandfather clock, does not matter - if it has roman numerals on the face 4 is shown as IIII not IV.

I'm using your Cloudsdale picture as my desktop, I had to do something with those danged holes. Managed to edit the two outside ones out but I had to just put a box over the middle one that reads "Josh Sung Cloudsdale". At least nobody can ask me who made the picture.

I'm an architecture major, a brony, and my brother is horrifically judgmental. So for the time being (meaning the summer when I'm home) I have to use things that don't exactly look pony-ish.
