Description
Cubone are shy Desert animals. They live in dry sandy places but are also found near burial grounds of other pokemon.
They dig up bones and use them as weapons. They use them to both hunt and to battle against each other for territory.
There is an old myth that Cubone wear their mothers skull as a helmet, this is mere fantasy. It is named the 'orphan' pokemon because they are abandoned by their parents at a young age to fend for themselves. The bone on its head is a build up of calcium around its skull that protrudes through their skin.
hope you like it

So, the skull really IS a part of its body? Whoa, science sure took long to catch up on that part.
Then again, I'm talking about the same scientists who uses words like, "pathetic". (really, what scientist uses the word, "pathetic"?)
Cute. I don't know if a dinosaur (which I'm guessing this cubone is), would have pectorals like that, and the hands look more useful for part-time quadrepedal action than grasping, and wielding bones, but cute.

well it evolved from quadrepedal animals, but like dinosaurs such as iguanodon the learnt to walk bipedal. after many generations they pefected walking upright and grasping things, its was a natural evolutionary trait that they evolved to utilise these 'hands' and turn them into something useful, using it as a weapon. Through that their pectorial muscles grew and their shoulder blades shifted to allow them to throw with accuracy and strength

That's believable, but I thought the pokemon pictured doesn't seem built for that sort of thing. Thought they'd look a little more hand-ish.

Huh. I was thinking it actually uses the skulls of other animals as helmets, but this spin seems interesting...

Why not? Animals can have weird traditions like that.

JoshuaDunlop In reply to xDaisuke0 [2009-07-03 08:56:48 +0000 UTC]
well because you never see one without, it was even stated once that they cant survive without one meaning if any were born and couldnt find a skull they would die. Plus animals dont have tradions, only humans have that through society and it seems nieve to thing that kubones natural skull would always fit perfectly within another. In a natural world sense it just doesnt make much sense.

On the first edition pokemon card of Cubone, the captions on
the bottom said that the cubone was classified as the "Lonely pokemon"
and that its mother dies once it gives birth and that it wears its
mother's skull to remember it by, (or something like that)
and the bone it holds is like a farfetch'd's leek to it...
Great work, this is also one of my favorites... sad story though,
the calcium build up is a good story also, like a partial exo-skeleton...

WHOA...that calcium thing is intense, lol. I actually kinda like the mother story, even though it is depressing...
Anyways, love the story and the work as always, I especially love the meteor shower in the background, lol. Great work.

I've waited for this one for ages and I wasn't disappointed. It is fantastic, although the eyes are a little weird. I would love to see Cubone without the skull.

Well you cant, the cubone skull IS its head.

Alter-Net [2008-07-11 19:34:57 +0000 UTC]
Thank you for refuting the dumbass "mother's skull" junk, it makes no sense! That would mean any female cubone or marrowak could only give birth to one cubone, so each generation would be smaller than the last, and would eventually just end up in extinction.
