Description
I'd been wanting to draw something moonlit, and to practice backgrounds some more, so I guess this was the result....shading is hard...

Aaah the background is very pretty. And I really love how you draw Cubone, very nice.

This one's head (or as much as we see of it)reminds me of a gila monster. I particularly like the neck veins in this. And the eyes. They are so filled with emotion and purpose.
I am actually partial to the idea that cubone is mammilian, but this reptilian version is pretty well done. I especially like the iguanodon-esque hands.
And those bones were amazingly well done.

What medium do you use to make these?

Photoshop 7, I used to start with a pencil sketch and scan that but now I do pretty much all of my sketches in Photoshop as well.

Yeah, I've got a Wacom Bamboo tablet. Not too expensive and does the job very well.

Well, looks like the hard shading paid off - I love the way it brings out the textures here. My favourite part would have to be the sinews in the neck. So cool. Great job on the backgrond too.

A very interesting design! Not quite reptilian, but not quite anything else either... o_O

Thank you! That's what I try to go for when I make my attempts at realistic PokΓ©mon - referencing as many examples of actual animal features as I need to make the original design feasible. It's a peeve of mine when I see people going about it like, "Cubone looks something like a lizard with a cow skull on it." -draws a normal lizard with a normal cow skull on it-

It's refreshing to see original concepts. We categorize both Cubone and Marowak as reptiles in our database. According to our research, they are based upon living dinosaur fossils. Not to say that it couldn't be something else...

This is beautiful! I love the texture on Cubone, and the background, so I guess the practice was a success!
Also, that shading does look hard. D:
