Description
I am extremely pleased with how Eevee turned out.. the background, not so much. It's sketchy on purpose though.Probably went on to evolve into this Umbreon.

it looks a lot like an eevee you keep true to the stocky body they have in both the show and the game as well as the thick ruff you even went with a rounded head and short muzzle. This is probably what it actually would look like if it were transferred from a cartoon into real life. Β Β Β
I also just realized I over analyze the anatomy of things that aren't actually real waaayy too much. But this is also really cute too.

You got Eevee's face wrong!Β It's supposed to have the face of a fox, not the face of a rabbit!

Actually, it's mostly a generic mammal chimera. I base my realistic interpretations of PokΓ©mon as closely to their official art as possible, and when I personally look at Eevee I see a mostly feline-lapine creature with a foxish tail. Here's a quick example for comparison: sta.sh/02bfcsz97ja3 You can see its face is closest to a cat's in shape, I then borrowed more rabbity eyes and ears and blended the muzzle between the two a bit. A fox's face is much more pointed than Eevee's appears to be - see the explicit fox-based PokΓ©mon such as Ninetales, Zoroark, or Delphox for comparison as to how that type of face is stylized in the series.
Looking the other Eeveelutions for more clues as to its basis, we know that Espeon is a Nekomata (and therefore can be determined to have been at least partially based on a cat) and Umbreon is likely a reference to the lunar rabbit in Asian mythology. The others are generally a grab-bag of "fuzzy mammal" and elemental features.

Not only that, but also consider the fact that in Generation 1, animal bases for Pokemon weren't re-used. There were only 151 Pokemon, after all, so having two Pokemon or evolutionary lines of Pokemon based on the same thing would be a waste of space (and before you mention Psyduck and Farfetch'd; Psyduck isn't a duck--it's a platypus).Β
But Generation 1 already had a fox in the form of the Vulpix line, so it doesn't really make sense for Eevee to be another one.

Eevee actually has a pretty short, flat snout, more like a rabbit than a fox. A fox's snout is long and narrow, not like Eevee at all.

Eevee has a flattish face and long ears which are pretty rabbity traits

Hi there; I need some Eevee fan art for an upcoming entry on this blog thing that I do [link] and this is awesome - would you mind if I used it (with credit and a link, naturally)?

Also I guess I'll mention it here since Disqus never lets me leave links even after I do a captcha :T - the artist for the Wurmple/Beautifly/Dustox article can be found at [link] (E-Log is the compilation of his posts.)

Ah; thank you! I was never quite sure about that - I found the art on a DeviantArt page, but the owner of the page had been identified by others as an art thief, and I never quite managed to find a link to the original artist. And thanks for letting me use your Eevee!

I like the rabbitishness to it. I think when people try to draw a more detailed Eevee as a fox, it looks too... Um... I don't even know, but I like the partial rabbitness. I guess it keeps it fatasy oriented. Yes, fox Eevees look too real.
