Description
Lapras are beautiful but rare pokemon. They live in pods of 8 or 9, hunting, traveling, and sleeping together. They have a strong family unit, but are capable of hunting on their own. They communicate to each other by a series of clicks and wails that can travel very far in water. They have specially designed ears that pick up these long distance sounds due to their curled flesh on the sides of their heads. these pick up the sounds and amplify them for their ears to hear clearly. These spirals are so complicated they can control how loud a sound is so not damaging the Lapras ears and can tune out all other noise to focus in on one particular frequency.
When at the right age, young males and females will break off and create new pods to abolish any inbreeding that might occur in breeding season. This is why at some times in the year you can find lone Lapras. These are the best to catch as they adopt their new trainer as their new pod, but if caught from part of a family unit it can get very depressed and even aggressive.
Their shells are a build up of sand and calcium (similar to rock pokemon) this is for defense in battle, both against other pokemon, and in breeding season, there are strong fights when trying to create new pods. They can get things latching onto them such as weed and limpets, but this can be good for helping ween babies off their mother milk as they will feed from the shells to get used to solid food.
They hunt along coasts mainly, following a hunting path that leads them to all the best fishing spots. These are called 'Runs'.
When a female is pregnant she will haul herself onto a beach and dig a large hole. Here she will lay up to 3 eggs, she buries them and leaves them. By the time the pod has done their full run they will be back in time to find the young lapras finding their way to the sea. Instinctually they will find their way to the right pod. it is thought it is something to do with the variation in the mothers call that draws the right child to the right parent.
Lapras (though they may not look it) are mammals, and suckle their babies. It is thought they lay eggs (rather than live young) because of safety reasons, if a young mother feels she cannot cope with a baby or a pod is too big, then other pods will adopt the youngsters. This means no babies are abandoned.
They have a varied diet as they are omnivores. Their main source of food is obviously fish, but they also eat kelp and Seel. They stalk the Seel like a lion pack, and will create ambushes to capture their prey.
Lapras are called the 'travel or carrier' pokemon because it was some of the first animals in history to learn to carry humans long distances over the oceans to new continents. It is thought that is how people first settled in Kanto.
they are favored by many people above other water types as they look like they are smiling. They aren't actually smiling however it is just the way their jaw is, but it still makes people happy when they see them.
Up until about 10 years ago, Lapras were nearly hunted to extinction. 'Lappers' as they called themselves, hunted and killed millions of Lapras for their valuble blubber and oil. The oil and blubbger was sold for food and even machinery lubricant. This nearly wiped them out and is the reason why they are so rare. In many places they are now protected after it was deemed illegal to hunt and kill them.
They can survive harsh extremes, both cold and warm. Lapras have been found near glaciers and underwater volcanos, so are seen as some of the worlds most adaptive water pokemon.
In battle they can use their bodies to extremely cool or heat water in their 'water bladders' to scold or even freeze other pokemon. They also have the ability to shoot 'Ice beams' a trait mainly found in Lapras in cold regions. Ice beams are a combination of dry ice and psychic control. Lapras (as do many other pokemon species) have minor psychic abilities but not enough to make a great impact to battle.
Hope you like it
(This is one of the most complex poke-evo pics i have done so far, but Lapras is one of my ultimate faves so can you blame me
