Yes. It became clear to me that an ecosystem that was made up of nothing but pokemon couldn't work, there's simply not enough to fill every gap. So I concluded that Pokemon are simply animals in their world they have been deemed ok to legally battle with. Just because there is a form of a sparrow in their world doesn't mean you would use it to battle, it cant be trained well, has no special abilities and would easily get killed, however a Pidgey, which is larger, stronger and more intelligent, could be. Some animals are bred and used specifically for certain work or tasks in our world e.g. Ox pull carts, we ride horses, dogs track things... but they wouldn't be used outside of those areas. Like you wouldn't ride a dog, or have a cat pull a cart lol. So Pokemon are simply animals with special abilities that have been deemed ok to use in battle
