Description
Porygon was the first true A.I system created by humanity.Originally designed by Silph.co. A giant technology company working primarily for The Pokemon League inc.
They aimed to create top notch gear for anything involving pokemon, including their most famous achievements, the pokemon trading and storage system and the world famous Poke'ball itself.
A couple of years ago a small devision of Silph.co, were looking into pokemon training. They were aiming to develop a device that could allow pokemon to train against an artificial opponent.
They created the Porygon.1. Known as at the time as the Artificial Pokemon Battle System or A.P.B.S for short.
It was a holographic 'hard light' battle system. State of the art. Combining force-field technology with holographic effects, essentially creating a self sustaining, solid projection.
In the centre of the hologram was the core network, essentially a mini super computer with added projectors, force-field amplifiers and anti gravitational thrusters.
As I said, state of the art.
All initial tests ran smoothly. The battle system ran well and they even installed a self regenerating circuit within the core incase it became damaged. Essentially,it could slowly re-heal itself like a real pokemon.
The problem was the A.I. At the time it could only conceive basic instructions and to dodge attacks, but when it was put against experienced trainers with complex battle routines, It couldn't process the information. The fundamental problem was it didn't learn from its mistakes.
Thats when a young man, only known as 'Bill' his real name unknown, came onto the project. He was Silph.co's brain boy and has worked on many of their winning previous projects. He took an interest in the A.I system and created within only six months, a new memory system that could actually learn.
Bill was praised when Porygon was put back into testing. It would remember repeated attacks, and combined attacks. However Silph.co investors wanted more.
Impressed with Porygon's defensive abilities, they wanted to see its offensive capabilities.
Ignoring Bills protest against adding weaponry to the Porygon, they used military technology that could imitate certain pokemon abilities, especially laser and beam attacks.
They were even further impressed when the Porygon would even occasionally win battles when put against real pokemon.
Bill however had noticed its rapid learning capabilities were no longer holding the the original parameters and far excelling anything he had thought of. It was learning on its own.
Bill went into its internal mainframe only to find millions of new firewalls and anti-hacking tech that the Porygon itself had created, almost like an technological immune system. Fortunately Bill was gifted enough to hack through but a few systems until he was shut out, but what he found shocked him.
Within the programming he found whole new data streams showing how it had developed clear and defined consciousness, but the most worrying was a program that was thereafter named 'Repro.2X1'... it was a program it had written itself, a program that allowed it to reproduce. Similar to Voltorb's, it could collect spare metal and create a replica of itself.
Bill tried to show it too Silph.co, but they weren't interested. However by that time it was too late.
In a outdoor battle, the Porygon broke its tracking beacon that usually wouldn't allow it to travel any further than 50 meters and escaped. Disappearing of Silph.co's sensors.
Bill knew how to track it using high frequency radio waves, and eventually found it in an abandoned scrapping yard near to the city.
He had an advantage over Silph.co however. While he was working on programming it he made sure that the Porygon could be held inside a Pokeball, just like a real pokemon.
He caught the Porygon, but soon realized he was too late as he saw 4, smaller Porygon, fly away into the Junk. He knew they would never catch them, especially now they were reproducing.
When he took it back to the lab he studied the Porygon. He slowly realized it had developed emotions and was actually scared. He soothed the Porygon, just like it were a real creature, and it slowly responded to his affection and too this day is a very loyal companion to Bill.
Bill also found that they generally can only reproduce once or twice in their 'lifetime' as it drains their core. Their battery/energy eventually runs out like all animals. It was because of this that 10 years later the Porygon was stated as a official Pokemon, and was legally allowed to be used in official battles.
They are still rare, but can be found in cities or anywhere with a lot of metal.
Since then, upgrades have been created by humanity to evolve Porygon, boosting their graphics matrix and strength capabilities. Many of which were created and perfected by Bill, by studying his very loyal companion and friend. The very first Porygon, he named... Adam.
Hope you liked it

Interesting. I like how Porygon started out as a artifical opponent for training Pokemon and how Bill participated in Porygon's development.
Why is it when as soon as a computer is able to 'learn', it starts to have a concience and emotions?

I guess its the element of learning the difference between right and wrong. Once you have that emotions naturally follow

This Porygon is really amazing,I've always pictured it as something mechanical but I like the hologram idea alot better.

Excellent work. I had been looking for a plausible way to explain Porygon, and I think I've found it.

The background stories you come up with are so detailed you'd think they were canon. Great art and story. Gotta' love it!
