Description [link] inspired me with her Steelix on this one

Onixes or 'Land whales or sharks' live in dry, sandy or soft earth areas like the desert. they are called this because when they chase down prey their horn sticks up from the earth like a dorsal fin.

Onixes move through the earth by using its ruff extreier to pull itself through the earth.
They can pull themselves at considerable speeds of up to 45 mph.
They are carnivores and can detect the slightest vibrations in the earth and when they feel that they burst up to hunt down their prey.
They use this technique as they have poor eyesight as they spend most of their time underground.
They are canivores and will hunt anything as their food supply is usually small if they live in places like the desert.
Areas in habbited by onix are very dangerous, and a lot of laces have been cornered off by the goverment as people and cars were repeatedly being attacked.

Onixes have large capasity lungs meaning they can stay underground for long periods of time, only coming up for a deep breath once and a while.
To protect their eyes from grit etc they have a thick transparent lid that covers their eyeball, along with the ability to close their eyes. The lid also acts as a pair of sunglasses for the animal to stop them getting a potential 'light shock' when they come to the surface.

Onix are a memeber of the 'hidden gene' group, where they will only evolve in trading. They evolve because a hidden gene is triggered when being traded. Therefore Steelix, onixes evolved form are not seen naturally in the wild.

Like other rock pokemon they eat sand, which its transfered to their skin like calcium, building up a hard armour of rock. This also helps with the weight of the earth when they are underground, it resists the pressure and stops the onix from being crushed.

Onix have a large horn on their head which they both use to dig through sand and earth while also using it as a weapon.
Females are twice the size of males and are very protective of terrotory. They mark terrotory by leaving urine markers underground, so if another onix digs through it they will know they are entering another onixes terratory. Onix have an unusual mateing ritual, unlike most other animals. Females will fight over a male as their are less males than females in the rock snake family.

Onix are not caring parents. they will dig a large underground hole, lay their eggs and then leave, never to return. when the babys hatch they must dig their way to the surface. bcause of this only around 20% of the brood survive.

Thanks to Anna for the inspiration and great ideas on the natural biology of an onix.

Hope you like it

would make sence because I find lots of female onixs in Sinnoh all seem to be girls. I wouldn't say males are smaller but it would make some sence since males have a generally higher Sp attack and sp defence. While females have a larger attack (speed and defence aren't really gender spesicice). well done

wow. scary to think about if it was real.
But wouldn't there be like a huge hole where they live because they dig and live underground.....o_O

for a bit yes, but a lot of the time it fills itself in due to being in soft ground areas

Yikes. I like the explaination for the eyelids. I guess anything else would get "light shock".

...When you say the females are twice as big, do you mean that females are 56 feet, or the males are 14 feet?

*shudders either way*

avarage size for males is 20-25 ft, females 40-50 ft

funny how evolution realizes that the rock snake must turn into a steel rock snake once the pokeball's been traded amongst humans. ^0^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoshuaDunlop In reply to bluchimera [2007-10-18 10:07:52 +0000 UTC]

yer, dunno if it mentions on this one but i call it the hidden gene, a gene that was turned off naturally until they made the trader machine and triggered it to evolve with certain catalysts
