Description
Been a tad longer than expected but I’m back with more! This here is a new goofy OC of mine, Flint. I had a blast making him and am happy with the results. I hope y’all are too! I decided to right a character description as some have suggested so if you don’t want to read that you can skip to “Style notes.”Character description: This guy is Flint and he’s an OC I’ve been mulling over for a while and thought it would be nice to finally get em down visually. He is kind of a mixture of a dragon (wyvern specifically) and a bat (megabat specifically). He’s got a thin/long figure with body scars and a missing tooth/fang left over from past physical trauma relating to his slightly dark backstory (which I may at some point build upon and make clear). Being wyvern-like, I intend on giving him wings attached from his mid-arm to lower-abdomen (sorry no full-body that shows this yet) but these too have physical trauma in the form of cuts/tears resulting in him being unable to fly. His ears can be swapped out for horns as well (although the ears are the default). More about his physical form can be seen on this toon version I did a while before this one, Flint Toon . Note that this toon version is not fully accurate to the design of the character as of present.
Personality-wise, Flint is a playful reckless type that is perhaps a little too reckless at times. However, this side of him will often recede into a shy and super anxious version of himself when in highly social situations, moments of intimidation or worry/paranoia. This is likely left over from past trauma/mistreatment that also lead to his physical scars. Regardless, Flint persists to make the best out of life with what seems like undying, possibly naive, optimism. I prefer to show most of this visually through more art later on but I will say that Flint’s various forms of expression (in terms of gender, sexuality, personality etc) are typically feminine in nature. He will often try and act tough, show-off-ish, or stereotypically masculine when keeping up appearances but typically (and especially around those he trusts) he acts compassionate/highly empathetic, frightened easily, and creative rather than physical. The former often makes it obvious that he is trying to be someone he isn’t which can result in goofiness (what is hopefully shown above). In terms of pronouns, he/him is preferred but he’s okay with any really. Generally gender apathetic, he will behave as he feels most comfortable and even wear clothing of any kind so long as he feels comfortable (from suits to skirts to kilts, it doesn’t really matter). However, Flint is self-conscious in highly social situations and will become restricted in his expression at these times. This is likely due to past trauma coupled with his scars (etc) leading to a fear of being viewed as some kind of monster (aka judgement of his appearance or behaviors).
I do have another character of the same mixture of dragon and bat who is Flint’s other half, named Charly. I should have him be rendered within a couple weeks. He plays a crucial role in their development (especially with bettering Flint’s mental health and understanding etc). Regardless of story, they’ll hopefully make for a great compare and contrast couple. May take trial and error to get better at it but I’m glad to be running with some OC’s for the first time.
Style notes: As you can likely tell, my style used here has changed a bit from my previous post, Dragon On The Spot . This is because I’m currently experimenting with different processes and trying to nail down a specific repeatable process that I thoroughly enjoy. I have continued using a lot of the same techniques I employed on my previous post (from texture to high saturation shading etc) but I have also adopted quite a lot of new techniques (like rim lighting) that I think are improvements. I am fairly content with this look so I will likely be continuing with it in the future. Let me know what y’all think of the “improvements” if they can hopefully be called that.
Future plans: My last semester of college thus far has been quite eventful. So much so that it has set back my time to work on other things such as art quite a bit. This will likely continue for sometime and as a result, I might be posting about as long as I recently have been (around 2 weeks) for a while (until things cool down and I get better at my processes that is). I intend on doing about 3 to 4 more headshots just like this one and in the mean time I’ll begin shifting toward a more simple (quicker and more easily replicable) style (with more full-body and composition stuff too). So be on the lookout for that stuff! I feel good about my progress thus far and hope y’all do too!
Thx so much for viewing!

Hahahaha!!! OMG, I'm going to be perfectly honest and admit that I did not intend to reference that meme and I am absolutely LMAO over the fact that I SOMEHOW made the pose and gave the deviation this name without realizing it!
I was even going to leave the name at just Flint (hint was just to refer to me introducing him slightly and because it rhymed) and remove his hand because I was debating hard with myself whether it was necessary but I left it in mostly to fill negative space more and add some action/movement. My original intentions for the pose were something closer to a mild typical tongue out & devil horns punk rock pose.
That's too funny but also okay. Like Bob Ross would say, "there are no mistakes, just happy accidents."
Also, I'm pretty dumb when it comes to keeping up with internet (sub)culture and I'm curious to learn, are you using "Mint" as in nice, cool etc or something more specific like an actual mint?

I used the Word "Mint" like the taste of a chewing gum because of the color blue
