Description

FINALLY! This drawing has taken far too long to get done. I started on it back in 2017 I believe and it's now 2020. Though it's not as if I've been drawing non-stop since then. I usually lock myself up for a week and draw intensely and then don't touch the drawing for another year or so. I've wanted to do this image for such a long while to pay tribute to Aang's various attires and also because I find it immensely fun to portray a character as he or she goes through life. And finally, it's done. Now time to do the same for Korra, Toph, Katara, Ozai, Kuvira, oh dear lord. Nope! This is it for now. Maybe I'll get one of those aforementioned ones done within the next 5 years or so knowing me.

Now time to go through each iteration of Aang left to right:

-The first and youngest version here is the most iconic version of Aang as we all know and love him from the show. He's 12 years old in this version

-The second one is based on how he looks in the comics. The orange cloth he wears here is supposed to be the same as on the previous version. But Gurihiru (the artists behind five of the Avatar comics) uses slightly different hues and saturations than what's used in the show. After going back and forth a lot on which to choose I ultimately settle for having TV show orange on the first version and then the comic orange on the three succeeding versions. As this one is based on the comic version which takes place 1-2 years after the show's ending I'm guessing he's 14-15 years old in this version.

-This third version of Aang is based on his outfit from the finale. In the finale the entire outfit is yellow while in the comic he wears an alternate version with the top part being orange and the red belt being a lot shorter. I decided to somewhat combine the two with an orange top and a long red belt. I thought the colors would look more dynamic that way and not stand and from the rest of the bunch. This version is probably approximately 18-19 years old.

-The fourth version is probably one of my favorites. This one is based on the attire Aang wears in the comic North and South. I really love how he starts wearing a cape similar to what he'll eventually wear as an adult. At this point he's somewhere in his mid or even late twenties, and as we haven't seen him at this age in any official media I had to make up what I might have looked like. I imagined he might have started with a smaller goatee before growing it bigger. As I said, Aang's somewhere in his late 20s in this fourth version.

-The fifth version is based on how he looks in the famous Old Friends image where we see the Gaang all grown up. He's also seen wearing this attire while briefly talking to Korra in Beginnings Part 1 and in his family photo. Aang in this version is probably in his early 40s.

-The sixth and final version of Aang. Look how old he got! This version is based on how he looks when Tenzin meets him in the Fog of Lost Souls. This is the oldest version we ever see of Aang in any of the shows or comics. It's unknown if he ever turned grey/white in his older days. As it's been stated that he was 66 when he passed away I'd see this version here is in his late 50s/early 60s.

The image might be complete but there are still some small things about it that bother me. Some of the shadows look off and some of the faces are a bit weird in my opinion. I'll probably re-upload a slightly modified version on top of this file somewhere down the road.
