POST-CATACLYSMIC REFLECTIONS - 1st ENVOY'S JOURNAL - LOG 751

This is partly my fault. Had I knew then, I would have advised against the mission, even under the threat of termination. The blood of the other envoys are on my hands... so is the rest of humanity's.

No, the Synod did this. We were merely pawns to their machinations. Regardless, all this would not have happened had we not pushed our luck too far. When you stare into the void, it will stare back. You will suffer the consequences for peering into that shoreless abyss. And there is no turning back from it.

Perhaps this was all part of the Luminary's plan, to lure the Hierarchy into the fray, sacrificing a few territories, in order to gain some insight or power, at the expense of billions, perhaps trillions. Perhaps this was all a huge blunder, and now a crisis looms on the horizon, threatening to consume the web of realities under the control of the Luminary.

Who is the real monster here? Perhaps it's all a matter of perspective. Everyone can be a monster if you're so inclined to see them as such; even the universe itself. Perhaps I'm one too. I can philosophize and moralize all I want. But the universe does not care. Nothing does. Nothing matters. We are all willing participants to the relentless engines of causality after all. It all just is.

Now as I walk these dead ruins, of shifting shadows, in the stillness, I am haunted by my own demons. Regrets... what ifs... shoulds...

Unproductive thoughts. Waste of data space. I must keep moving. HQ is a long way ahead.
