Description
Of all the fan artworks I've seen, no one has given any attention to the Death Star like thing at the upper corner of the official Force Awakens poster. Then I found out that the Starkiller base, is actually a weaponized, planet, with a destructive power that outmatches its predecessor Death Stars, and probably much larger too.So no longer would you need to squint your eyes on the poster to see its details. Here it is in all its glory.

it uses the planet's core as its main source of power. i think it would require a weapon, hundreds of thousands of times more powerful than a proton torpedo.

The planet it is built on acts more as a containment chamber, the technology installed in the crust literally sucks out the power from a star, stores in the core, then uses that energy to both allow the planet to make hyperspace jumps to new positions (and new stars), and can release the energy as directed bursts to target multiple planets in a solar system at once. Its even stated to be able to fire "through" hyperspace so it can hit targets from multiple solar systems distance away almost instantaneously.
These details are described in the Novel - its a shame the film did not make use of these points or else Starkiller Base (and Finns obvious fear of the First Order) would have made a lot more sense.

So..
It's big enough to maintain an atmosphere, it would seem.
Unless that is also artificially created.
In any case, would be a trip to walk around on the surface.
Nicely done.

I would prefer not to live in that galaxy, knowing it's a hipster trend to create planet/star decimating constructs. lol
