Got commissioned to re-sprite the cast of EarthBound in the style of Mother 4.Here's a comparison of the original sprites and my revamped versions. You can't really improve on Mr. Saturn, but of all of the new versions, I think Poo is my favorite. What do you think?

A lot of the sprites in the original have flat mouths, so they could be read as different expressions at different times, but since I was only making these sprites as a commission, I was free to give NES the sort of smile he had during his photograph poses.

I may do more Mother sprites in he not-too-distant future.
As far as sprites with emotions go, I think games like Final Fantasy VI did it well. They had a neutral sprite most of the time, but special frames for laughter, shock, sadness, and anger.

Hey, these are great! They still have the original sort of cartoon feel but look like a little more care went into them. I really like Paula and Poo.
