Description
Oropher and Thranduil during Dagor Dagorlad, the day of the ill-fated charge. This piece was literally haunting me because I couldn't paint so many things right but in the end I decide to just submit this version and forget about it since I've finished it

Amazing, one of the best representation of Tolkien elves. The facial expressions are thoughtfulΒ and the gaze is very deep. I can`t express in a proper way all things I admire about this image.....

you have done it very good to show that they are father and son. I guess that Oropher is at the front and and Thranduil in the background? Or is it the other way around?

Yep you guessed right! Haha I tried to make Thranduil look younger but at the same time elves are meant to look immortal so its a bit hard > <

O!Dear!Heaven!! At last someone pictured Sindar like real sturdy MEN and not like slobbering girls!!! A Silmaril for you!
One more heap of hearts for those characters not being drawn from Lee Pace
Another one - for picturing a rare scene in T-fandom
And a mount of flowers for just beautiful art
You've transformed an ordinary day to something bigger...

Haha the sindar are a rather sturdy people, actually most of the elven races are maybe except for the vanyars only because we know so little about them > < I love the Lee Pace version too but I read LOTR about ten years before the hobbit movies were made so I had all that time to come up with a version that is stuck in my head Thank you so much for your kind comment!

Well, the only Vanya that's described is Indis as far as I know. "She was in all ways unlike MΓriel. She was not of the Noldor but of the Vanyar, being the sister of IngwΓ«; and she was golden haired and tall and exceedingly swift on foot. She did not labour with her hands, but made music and wove words into song; and there was ever light and mirth about her while the bliss of Aman lasted... ...and she walked often alone in the friths and fiends of Valar, filling them with music."
One name for Vanyar is also "Spear Elves" so maybe that's their preferred weapon.
There are some sources that say something about their eyes beingΒ blue or even violet, but I'm not sure where this bit has come from.

Yeah exactly, and in fandom there were speculations that Glorfindel may have been Vanya because of his famed golden hair.
That and it could have been for their sharp minds, I mean at the core of it there is always a stereotype for any race, maybe for the Vanya it has been for their intellect and etc the Noldor for their fiery drive?

Elaini-the-Mystic In reply to jyongyi [2016-09-02 19:17:15 +0000 UTC]
Perhaps. Vanyar were likened with the element of air as Noldor were likened with earth. Teleri were likened with water, that goes without saying. Usually if you look at descriptions about "air" as an element, it is the element of intelligence. They were also in the air quite literally, because they chose or were invited to live on the slopes of Taniquetil. So, in my mind I picture little palaces being built on heights, here and there.
Also, ManwΓ« was teaching them with words personally, because he loved language as much as as he loved Vanyar. As a result, they became great poets, but their accent also had an echo of Valarin language that's not usually found in Quenya. These things are sort of coming back to my mind bit by bit...
I love the picture about Oropher and Thraduil, by the way. I just happen to love lore discussion too, so here are you go.

Yep yep! Like golden looking places that looks ethereal (if even more ethereal than usual was possible to achieve in Aman haha).
All good I love lore discussions, too though most of my lore came from well researched fanfictions since I've stopped at Book of Lost Tales I and didn't read any of the Histories of ME T T
