Description Okay, here's where the fun begins.

I'm not sure how much detail is visible in a photograph.... but what I'm doing here is working from the back-forward - starting with the rear waterfall, upper pool, the surrounding rocks, and the 2nd smaller waterfall in front.

I'm taking thick oily paint (working lean to fat on the oil paints - each subsequent layer gets thicker and oilier so it doesn't crack as it dries) and putting in the details of the surfaces that I already have the basic shades of...

I've also found that the smell of the oil paints (or perhaps the solvent?) is something I find intensely soothing... Weird.

The work I did between the previous WIP shot and this one was about seven hours. This brings my total in hours up to 33.5 hours... (Oils are a lot quicker than acrylics - wow!)

Looking forward to working more on this. Next step is detailing the other rocks, the spaces behind the leafy areas, and the ripply water in the foreground (I'm going to revisit the reflections and make them truer to my reference photo)

Thank you

I have taken some photographs over the last year or 2 that I plan to use in paintings... and the photograph I'm using as reference for this was taken at the Portland Japanese Gardens...

I enjoy painting landscapes - and especially water - because its such a challenge and I love the look of water

I can't wait to see how those turn out.^w^ I've been to the gardens a few times before, very beautiful.X3
I can't draw water, only animals really.

I too love the look of water. I go to all kinds of places to take photographs of the scenic aquatic areas there. If you want, I could give you some shots of some wonderful Hawaiian waterfalls.

I think the water effect on the leaves on the left worked really nicely.

I actually rather it with that weird brown tilt. Makes it feel more, peaceful and like we've been there before.
Mmmm, warm fuzzies all around!
