...Edit: I was really shocked that I received a DD.. Thank you to ~ModularBlues for suggesting it and to ^Aeires for featuring it.. and especially thank you to all those people who came to look at my little bluebird. This means a great deal to me. Actually, I do. I start doing research on whatever bird I choose to paint.. referencing photos from the internet, my audobon book.. picture books, etc.. As long as I can see it, I can usually draw it. You know those grids you got as a kid.. that had the empty grid, then the picture with the grid over it? You were supposed to just look at each section of grid and draw it, and then you'd ahve this realistic picture? I was always really good at those..
The plants are actually referenced from the forsythia bush outside my house. I love the smoothness and spotty look of the branches..

I still love your knotwork. It would be cool if you made a picture that incorporated both things that we all love too see from you. It would be neat to see something like a knotwork frame with a lil bird on or inside it somewhere. Gah, I can't put a good specific suggestion into words.

Oh. you mean like.. celtic sushi? ROFLMAO.. I also did a companion piece to it that I didn't post here, called Gaelic Forsythia. Celtic Sushi and Gaelic Forsythia are hanging in a woman's living room here in Kentucky somewhere, framed in the finest Mahogany frames I could purchase half-price at Michael's.. But I'll take the suggestion.. I gots lots of inspiration right now.

Okay.. I'm going to show my ignorance here and just simply ask.. what is vignetting? Is that where I muted the colors on the immediate background behind the bird intentionally to bring your eye back to the sticks and bird? LOL.. I really don't know what that is.

Today we will learn about Vignetting.
*writes word on the chalkboard*
Vignetting is where you slightly darken the edges (or lighten - but it's darken in this case!) of an image to make the center of the image stand out more. Usually the space left intact is in an oval shape or a circle. The effected area can fade to a solid color or to match the background. In this case you made the edges slightly darker which really gave the overall piece more mood and helped to direct the viewer's eye back to your subject matter.
