Doing a Star Wars movie can give him more expereince and possible more..allies in Hollywood to call upon for the sequel. So we might get ILM for Godzilla 2 and 3!

and plus if it comes out in 2018 thats 4 years of advancements in technology, and love him or hate him James Cameron always pushes for easier and more powerful film technology(I dont mean 3D, fuck 3D) I mean he has developed cameras and tech that can shoot motion capture in the water...so AVATAR 2 is good if only for the technology for other filmmakers.
