Description
The Godzilla anime series may not be what most of the fanbase hoped for, but as I've said for years I'm always grateful for each film because you never know what will be the last (except in this case I suppose because KOTM is set to come out no matter what). I'm still looking forward to seeing how the anime finishes, hoping for good things, but regardless let's enjoy the funky, weird version of Ghidorah a little, because why not?

And to believe that this iconic world destroyer tricephaleo monster started inspired by a Slavic Dragon named Zmey Gorynych, who was merely the typical evil / villain monster of fairy tales who simply kidnapped beautiful princesses ... and believe that something so simple as the Zmey Gorynych may have inspired a character as iconic as King Ghidorah.

So, what did you thin about 'Godzilla: The Planet Eater' and it's new take of King Ghidorah?

Pretty mixed, honestly. I don't mind them taking a new spin on Ghidorah with the black hole portals, or the Exif worshiping the monster like a mad cult, those and the elements with the Hotua twins were actually pretty good and rather different for the franchise. My issue with the installment like the other two was just the way it padded itself out and wasted time with pretentious dialog. The whole trilogy would have fit neatly into a two and a half hour movie at most instead of being a 3 movie, 4.5+ hour miniseries basically. I really do like the concept of Godzilla Earth and the sci fi setting, but I think I agree with the fans who feel that the prequel novels would have made for a better story, watching the fall of earth to the hoard of monsters. But they clearly didn't have the money for that, and we now know that Toho instructed the directors to minimize the kaiju action so at the end of the day there's nobody to blame but Toho for it not being as satisfying as it should have been. I place it just slightly higher than Shin in my overall list of favorites just because I like the settings and sci fi elements, but the anime trilogy is still pretty low on my list.

The anime trilogy was originally suppose to be an anime series of episodes. But was cut short and instead became into a trilogy because of Legendary's Godzilla series.
It was also confirmed that SpaceGodzilla exists in this continuity, and yet he was never mentioned and never appeared in any of the prequel novels.

Yeah I knew Toho changed their plans for it and rushed it into theaters after the success of Shin, honestly it should have been a series and allowed to breathe with the prequel stories incorporated into it. That to me would have been the ideal scenario. But, it is what it is and I don't hate the anime, I just hope Toho learns a few lessons and does a more bang up job on another anime attempt in future

Thanks, though if I committed any crimes of inaccuracy I think Ghiddy's looking a little "thick" in the necks compared to the rather scrawny tapeworm thing they've got going on in the movie, but hey the joy of fanart is the freedom to do whatever we want right?

A lot of people seem to be writing off the anime trilogy as crud, I am usually not much of an anime guy but I am loving the series. Especially loving the new look of the three headed horror, great piece by the way.

Thanks, and I pretty much agree. I consider myself not a die-hard Godzilla fan but a die-never fan, just love the big guy too much, so even when stuff comes along like the anime series that to me falls a little short of what it should of been, I still find plenty to enjoy and appreciate. I won't blame any fans if they don't like the new series as far as their tastes, but I think it's stupid to just hate it because it's trying something different and unique.

Considering we know (or at least, have an idea) of how KOTM is gonna end (because Godzilla is gonna fight Kong in the next movie) it's possible that the ending of TPE will be a twist, and will have Ghidorah actually win. I know it might seem like a stretch, but considering the unpredictability of this anime series so far, and Gen Urobuchi's writing style, I wouldn't put that past them.

Heh, no worries it's not forward, I just feel a little bad because while I'm always very flattered to get requests I'm afraid I've just never been that big of a fan of the smog boy XD Don't get me wrong there's no Godzilla movie I hate, and I have affection for Hedorah in my own way, but I've rarely drawn it just because it's not the biggest on my list, but hey if I ever get an excuse to draw him up for something I'll make sure to do it.

I tried to draw this battle several times, in a recreation of the 1991 Godzilla vs King Ghidorah poster, however I just can never seem to get it right.
I really hope this movie will be good. We had one, 'decent' first entry, and second movie that seemed to, almost intentionally, subvert our expectations to go the most boring route, maybe, just MAYBE, this will make it all worth it.
Nice drawing btw

Thanks. I feel like the lone voice sometimes on the forums trying to remind people you have to hold out at least a little hope before writing off the movie as garbage. The anime may not have hit all the right notes for me personally but I'll keep saying as I always do that I'm happier they GOT made than to have had nothing between SHIN and Legendary 2. I'll never understand fans that are just as angry nothing gets produced, even if it is a little underwhelming, than to be in a void of no new installments.

Thanks, and agreed. A good kaiju clash and some satisfying conclusions to the human drama would go far to making me feel that the anime was better rounded as a chunk of the Godzilla legacy.
